Chapter Three
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was actually fun going back to the place where I felt the most amount of pain as a teenager with the case of the hallucination of being in love. Kids were treating me differently and they were actually starting to like me. It’s kind of easy to manipulate people with your physical appearance: appear like the sexy, modern chick and they’ll love you instantly but dare to show yourself like the old fashioned, fat nerd and they’ll hate you to death.
So here I am now, dressed as a fresh teenager once again off to my second day of work.
Once I entered homeroom, the boys could be heard whistling cat calls and the girls smothering giggles.
I ignored them and plopped down on my huge chair, positioning my feet on my desk comfortably, my thoughts wandering off to the guy who broke my heart completely.
“Um, Miss Nickelsen?” My eyes shot wide open and found his face a few inches from mine.
I blinked. “Y-yeah?”
His minty breath blew across my face slowly, an undeniable smirk threatening to play on his lips. “Your students are already gone.” And he turned around to leave, he slipped his hands in his pockets-one of the things he did out of habit that’s still imprinted on my broken heart.
I blinked once again and noticed that my students were indeed gone.
I was the new coach of the girls’ soccer team. I wasn’t an expert but I guess I did pretty well considering that I played the sport when I was studying at the University in Canada.
As I was informed, practice here was done during Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. And as it was a Wednesday, I was called upon the field by one of my co-teachers-as stated by one of my students earlier that day.
“Should I like, wear my sports attire or what?” I asked, feigning innocence while twirling my dirty blonde hair.
The boy stuttered, ruffling his hair repeatedly. “Y-yes m-ma’am,” he replied, shifting his gaze from my finger twirling my hair to the tiled floor.
I grinned and patted his dark hair playfully. “Thanks.”
His cheeks turned bright red and he nodded quickly, almost running to the door.
I couldn’t help but giggle afterwards, the boy was just too cute. Ten minutes later, I was out at the field with my students stretching and whispering amongst each other.
“First time?”
If I weren’t in the middle of the field with a bunch of ‘strangers’, I’d be laughing my ass off at the inquired question. Instead, I just cleared my throat and replied, “Um, yeah… sure.”
The person laughed rather irritatingly and commented, “I thought you were one of them until I remembered our first meeting at the faculty.”
I faced him and raised an eyebrow as if expecting him to say something more.
His face has gotten more handsome since the last time I saw him-since that night where almost every perspective of mine has had become distorted to the point I’ve completely changed into a different person.
His hair was a tad bit shorter than his usual style-which was probably for formalities; his green eyes lacked the usual ‘twinkle’ they had before and under them both were slightly dark bags. But despite all of those things, he still managed to look utterly handsome with the new maturity his face-and body- both achieved.
“…wants to talk to you.”
I shook my head to snap myself out of my discreet way of checking him out. “What?”
He smirked knowingly. “I said: the captain of the team wants to talk to you.”
My cheeks started feeling hot. “Thanks.”
He nodded in acknowledgement. “No problem.” Then he walked away. As I was watching him, he looked back. “You really look familiar… Tell me, have we met before?”
My jaw almost dropped. He really sounded like he’s never seen me before. What an ass! “I don’t know,” I shrugged nonchalantly.
He cocked his head to the side and decided to let it go once I decided to not say anything else. “Okay.” With that, he continued to walk away once again.
