Chapter 13 Brewing Storm

Devon's POV

Where is it? where is it? Urrrg! This sucks. I scower piles of receipts for the right one, flinging paper on top of paper until I'm down to the last two. Please let this one be it. I cross my fingers and flip over the last two receipts in the pile. Opening my eyes a smile forms on my face... But it doesn't stay for long. "Fucking tease!" I curse. I throw my hands up in the air and groan "why me?"

"Looking for something?"

I turn around and see Lance smirking as he leans against the doorframe with the receipt I was looking for hanging loosely in his fingertips.

My mouth when't dry, as I started to get nervous. "Don't worry it's not mine" Lance informed me. "Max told me this is what you were looking for... Tho may I ask what you want with a receipt for chocolate icing?"

"I'm trying to find out who's icing I ate this morning, and I thought this might give me a clue."

"Ohhh that explains it" Lance realizes.

"Well I hope it does, I don't really have any other explanation for digging through a household pile of receipts so large it could be mistaken as a novel cut into many, many pieces" I say exasperated.

"No wonder he was in such a bad mood" Lance muttered to himself.

"Who was? Was it Neilson? Or worse, Cine? Oh no don't tell me it was Neco!" I groaned.

"He looked like he was about to murder someone" Lace continued.

"Who was?!" I raised my voice. Lance's eyes snapped over to my own "oh sorry I get distracted too easily" he smiled sheepishly and apologized. "It was Talon." My mouth hung open in disbelief "Talon?" I smiled, holding back a laugh "I can't see that sweet little thing harming a fly let alone hurting someone."

"Sweet little thing? Boy he has you fooled. He wreaks havoc without structure... And of corse Sean, to keep him in line. He's mostly on his best behaviour but some days he just go's off, and explodes in a very destructive manner" Lance explained with a slightly frightened look on his face.

"Come on he can't be that bad... Can he?" I asked, concerned.

"Let's just say last time someone took something of Talons without permission there was some serious knife throwing, and a violent incident involving a window" Lance's eyes glazed over as if he was reliving the memory as he spoke. I gulp. Standing up shakily, I feel my heart thumping in my chest so hard I can hear it in my ears. Shit, I'm dead.

I try to calm myself down as I throw the receipts back in the bin I found them in. Walking out of the kitchen I take a few deep breaths. I just need to stay calm. I need something to calm my nerves, something so robotic that I can't help but feel boringly safe.

I know just the thing.

10 minutes later all my homework is done. I sit on my bed my nerves still rattled from the information on my new friend, that I just received. I need to do something else.

I walk in into the the room, dragging my bag of dirty clothes behind me. Walking up to the washing machine I put the clothes that where already in there, in the dryer.

"Did you already do your homework Devon?" Neco asks as he enters the laundry room. I look up after finishing throw my clothes in the washing machine "huh oh yeah I did." He looked me straight in the eyes "you seem a little distracted, is anything wrong?" I shake my head "I'm just tired" I say. He rubs his hand up and down my back gently and my eyes flutter closed "maybe I should make you a nap schedule" he debates. I slowly open my eyes "no no no that's not necessary" I pause with a yawn "I just stayed up too late yesterday."

"Don't stay up too late, it's important to get a good nights sleep" he fretted. I closed my eyes once more as Neco's hand traveled up my back and tangled into my hair. "Yes Master" I hummed. I hate to admit it but this feels really nice. "Good. I'm not going to make you a nap schedule but I think you should go take a nap right now" Neco informed me. "How about I just go to bed early tonight" I say as he gently removes his hand from my head. "Okay pet" Neco agrees, walking out of the room with a toothbrush.

I lied to him. Now I somehow feel worse then I did before. I really need to confront Talon about the icing... But I'm kinda scared. I feel like in the news tomorrow, it's going to say: boy mysteriously falls out window and dies. This does not sound pleasant to me. I really don't want to be the victim of a violent incident involving a window.

Wait, I'm thinking about this all wrong... If I confront him then I can choose a place with less windows and sharp odjects.

I spent the next hour deciding on the perfect place. No windows or sharp things... But I couldn't find a single room that fit the description. Not a single one. I stared out the window as I contemplated this. It looked as miserable as I feel. Pouring rain, and dark clouds blocking out the sun. It's kind of poetic in a way.
"If only poetry could help me find a good place to tell him" I say sullenly. Then it hits me. I've never noticed it before because I was in such a rush to check out every destination. I don't need the destination, I just need the path. I'll use the hallway! It has no dangerous objects or windows.

---

"I took your icing" I say unwaveringly. I stand in the hallway and look into Talon's innocent blue eyes for any traces of anger, but before I know it his fist comes flying towards my face. I duck. "Give it back" he says calmly, but I can see the storm brewing inside. "I ate it!" I say slowly as I back myself into a wall. His face turned into one of fury. I raise my hands as he goes to take another swing at me "wait I think I know where I can get some more."

He glowers at me "give it to me by midnight or your dead to me."

He storms out of the room, and I let out a sigh. Now I need to sneak out tonight. Sorry Neco but if I want to survive to feel the punishment your going to give me then I got to do this. See you soon Jackson.
