The next morning, as I reluctantly made my way out of bed I saw that I had two voice mails and fifteen missed calls from Harry, all between one and five in the morning. I waited until I was on my way to school to listen to them.

"Alice!" Harry shouted, sounding hyper and slightly slurred. "I know you're sleeping probably I'm not sure but I just have to let you know that you're gorgeous and brilliant and the fact that you like me is fucking awesome! I got into a figh-" The answering machine cut him off there, but I already knew what he was going to say. He got into a fight. I don't know who it was with, but I was annoyed. Harry just got suspended, the last thing he needed was to get into another fight.

As I listened to the his other voice mail I got confused, it was recorded two hours after the first, "A-Alice? Sorry to bother you but I feel like I'm going crazy and I don't know what to do I feel weird and I'm thinking all these bad thoughts and, and-" his voice was caught off by a sob, and my car was filled with the sounds of Harry crying and mumbling something unintelligible until the answering machine cut him off.

I didn't know for sure but it sounded like Harry was on some kind of drug, probabyly cocaine or somethign along those lines, which scared the crap out of me. My brother used to be addicted to it and it was not pretty. To be honest, I didn't know Harry that well so I didn't know if he was the type to do hardcore drugs like that but I've heard rumors. I didn't want to assume anything but I just couldn't help but wonder.

I didn't have time to call him back since I had to get to class but I quickly sent him a text asking him if he was alright.

I couldn't concentrate at all during my classes, my mind plagued with thoughts of Harry. At lunch I asked Niall what he knew about him.

"Ooooh, Alice has a crush on Harry," he said, nudging Danielle who was too busy flirting with Liam to even acknowledge us.

"Shut up and just tell me," I snapped.

"I don't really know a lot about him. All I've heard was that he moved here from a town not too far from here and that he's been to juvie."

"What about you, Liam?" I asked, kicking him under the table when he didn't answer me.

"Ow! What was that for?" he asked, rubbing his shin.

"Stop making googly eyes at each other for five seconds and answer my question. What do you know about Harry?"

"Not a lot. Yesterday when I took Ryan to the office he told me that the reason they started fighting was because he said something about Harry's sister."

"He has a sister?" asked Danielle.

"Had. She died a couple years ago." Liam answered.

"What? Oh my gosh, that's terrible." said Danielle, holding a hand to her mouth.

"Yeah," Liam continued, "Anyway, Ryan said that she was sorta a slut and when he said something to Harry about it, he just flipped."

"Good," I said, getting upset at the situation all over again. "'Who the fuck says something like that about someone's dead sister? Ryan's an asshole."

"I agree, but I'm not sure if getting involved with Harry is such a good idea, Alice." said Danielle, laying her hand on my arm.

"What is that supposed to mean?" I said, turning towards her.

"It means that Harry seems like no good. I'm trying to look out for you. I don't want you to get hurt." she said, Niall nodding his head in agreement.

"What the hell? You guys don't even know him." I don't know if it was the fact that I was thinking the same thing and didn't want any of the rumors to be true, but I was mad. I could tell that Harry has been through a lot and I felt protective of him. I got up and grabbed my schoolbag off the table, ready to leave.

"Alice, don't go. We're just trying to help." Niall said.

"Whatever, you guys are being really judgemental right now and I don't want to deal with it." As I walked outside I saw that Harry didn't answer my text. I called him, wanting to make sure he was okay. It rang and rang but he didn't pick up.

By the end of the day, I was a nervous wreck. Harry hasn't answered any of my messages or returned any of my calls. I leaned against my car as I thought of worst case scenarios. I don't know what Harry was doing last night, but I had a feeling it wasn't good. Finally, as I was driving home, Harry finally answered.

"Hello?" Harry croaked into the phone.

"Harry! Are you okay?" I said, letting out a sigh of relief.

"Yeah," he said, not sounding like it all.

"Liar. Are you home? I got your voice mails and I've been calling you all day."

"No, I'm not home." he said, not expanding.

"Okay, well, where are you? You need me to come pick you up?"

"I'm at a friend's house. I don't wanna bother you."

"It's not a problem. What's the address?" Harry hung up after giving me the address of his friend's apartment. He didn't sound anything like his usual sarcastic self, and it made me uneasy. What happened last night?

I saw Harry's motorcycle parked outside of a dingy looking apartment. This part of town was not very popular because it had a high crime rate. I wondered what Harry was doing here last night.

"I'm outside." I said when Harry answered his phone.

" 'Kay, I'll be right down"

When Harry got inside, my mouth dropped. He looked awful. His eyes were bloodshot and swollen, making him look exhausted. The left one was a dark purple color. His hair was even messier than usual, like as if he spent all night running his fingers through it. Harry's bottom lip was swollen and bruised, looking nothing like it did yesterday. He looked like he's been through hell and back.

"What the hell happened last night?" I said, gently running my fingers across the bruises on his face and lip.

"Me and my dad had a little altercation last night when I got home," he said, looking out the window.

"Did he hit you?" I whispered. Harry nodded, not saying anything.

"Has this happened before?"

"No," Harry said, gently touching his lip. "This is the first time he's hit me."

I leaned over and gave his cheek a kiss, dying to know what was going on inside his beautiful mind. My phone rang as I was driving back home.

"Hey, Mom," I answered, seeing her name on the caller ID.

"Hey, honey. Just reminding you that me and your father are leaving for our trip today. We'll be back Monday night."

"Yeah, I know, I remember. Hope you guys enjoy yourselves."

"Thanks, Alice. I'll call you tonight."

When I hung up I looked over at Harry. He was staring out the window, looking very despondent.

"Have you spoken to your parents at all since last night?" I asked.

"No, I don't really feel like dealing with them right now."

"Um, if you want, you can stay over tonight." I knew it wasn't a very smart idea but I knew that he wasn't planning on going home tonight. I didn't want him to go to his friend's house again because God knows what he was going to do there, so the best thing was for him to just stay the night.

"Are you sure?" He said, looking surprised. "What about your parents?"

"They're going to be gone until Monday night."

"Um, okay then. If you're sure." I nodded my head and gave him a small smile.

This was going to be interesting.
