24-Announce

Ky's POV:

Newt pulls me to my feet and carefully dusts me off.

"Okay, love. Let's take care of this stupid shank."

I frown.

"Newt, how are you gonna do that?..." I ask, starting to shake again.

Newt turns back to me and traces little circles on my arm, calming me almost immediately.

"Don't you trust me, Ky?" he says.

I gulp and nod, hypnotized by his soft touch. Newt nods, smiling, and walks out of the deadheads, pulling me along gently with him. Madison trails behind.

We find Alby in the middle of the Glade talking to another boy.

"Alby! We need to have a meeting right now!" Newt shouts, motioning him over.

Alby shakes his head.

"No can do, Newt. I have to finish-"

"You can finish that later", Newt cuts Alby off with a growl. "This is an emergency and it needs to be dealt with. Right. Now."

Wow, Newt. Chill a little, you're talking to the leader. He could banish you if he wanted to, I say telepathically to Newt.

I feel a telepathic smirk coming from Newt, which is something I never thought I would ever feel.

Love, I don't think I'm the one who needs to worry about being banished today...Newt says.

Dread settles into the pit of my stomach like a brick.

What are you...

You'll see, love. I will take care of you and keep you safe, Newt promises.

Okay, I sigh. Trust....trust....

Madison gives me a weird look, which I return, despite the circumstances.

I look over to Alby, who is giving his armful of supplies to the boy, grumbling the whole time. When he is finished, he saunters over to the three of us.

"What is the problem, Newt?" he asks.

"Meeting", Newt states.

Alby sighs.

"I-"

"All the Keepers but Gally", Newt interrupts.

"Newt. Why can't Ga-"

"That's what the meetings about, Alby."

Alby sighs again.

"You know we can't have a meeting without all the Keepers. It's an unspoken rule. Gally has to be involved."

Newt's face looks very grim.

"Don't worry. He will be", he says angrily.

"Newt-"

"He needs to be thrown in the pit for the beginning of the meeting. It's necessary", Newt states firmly.

"Newt we can't-"

"IT'S NECESSARY!" Newt roars.

"Boy! IF YOU INTERRUPT ME ONE MORE TIME!" Alby shouts, sticking his finger in Newt's face.

I flinch, but Newt doesn't move a muscle. He stares Alby down, without resolve.

"In. The. Pit", Newt says.

Alby glares for another minute, then finally sighs once more and steps back, giving up.

"Fine. In the pit", Alby agrees. "You better be glad I like you..."

Newt smirks.

"Everyone likes me", he says, teasing.

Alby just shakes his head.
