As soon as we were out of site of the restaurant I slapped Alex across the shoulder.
“Are you fucking crazy?” I hissed.
“What?” He put his hands up in self-defense.
“What do you think you were doing? I don’t want to be around him. Can’t you see the effect he still has over me. I don’t want to be in the same room as the two of them.”
“Stella, you don’t see the effect you still have over him.”
“Huh?”
“Stella he approached the table without her, which means he had no intention of bringing her up. He only brought her up once he felt threatened about me. He matched the score when he brought her up.”
“The score?”
“Yes we aren’t the only ones playing the relationship game here.”
“What are we going to do about Friday?”
“Simple, we are going to go out on a double date and I can ensure you that by the end of the evening you will have had a good time and you won’t be worried about your ex’s new floosy.”
“I hope you know what you’re doing. I don’t want to end up reopening old wounds from that man.” I dazed out the window getting lost in my own thoughts.
“Stella, I promise you that you won’t be thinking about him the whole night.” My attention snapped back to him after that comment. He looked over at me with this honesty in his eyes. He raised my hand to his lips and placed a gentle kiss on it. It was only then that I realized we never stopped holding hands.
“You know you have to stop all this.” I lifted my hand and shook our comfortably intertwined hands at him.
“What do you mean?” He playfully arched an eyebrow at me.
“You’ve been very… well umm…” I didn’t really know what to call it.
“I’ve been very??” He stretched his question out.
“You’ve been very flirty since I met you.”
“I am a flirty sort of guy.” He simply stated.
“Flirty I can handle but you are just…” I searched my mind for the words but they just wouldn’t come. “… something else.” I mumbled.
“Why thank you.” He smirked over at me.
“That wasn’t meant to be a compliment.”
“Too bad, you can’t take it back now.” He rambled like a child.
And with that statement I realized we were back at the house. He quickly jumped out of the car like he was being chased by rabid wolves. He really can be such a strange man.
When we walked in the heads were filled with the smell of delicious food. Meredith was a master chef. The girl could cook like a little old Italian grandma.
“Hey guys!” She squealed. Wonder why she’s so happy?
“What’s got you in such a mood?” Alex questioned his sister.
“Well I’ve sort of got someone that I kind of like coming over shortly.”
“That is the most evasive answer I’ve ever heard.” He snorted. I can sort of agree with him. Meredith is normally very upfront with her feelings. This guy must be something special.
“So I take it you want to be alone for the evening?” Alex whined.
“Oh god no!” She cried. “I am not ready to be alone with him yet.”
