The Pain We Face

Pregnant?

"I don't understand, how this could happen!!! We have always used protection." He says. I look at him and shrug, tears still streaking down my face.

"Where is the pregnancy test?" Carl asks. I point to it. It's about ten feet away from me. He runs over and grabs it and runs back. He sits down next to me again. He looks at it while I rest my head on his shoulder.

"Maybe it's wrong" he says after awhile. I take it from him and look at it.

"I highly doubt it" I say. "I mean I have thrown up every morning for the past week." I explain. He looks at me with tears in his eyes.

"What are we going to do?" He asks putting his face in his hands.

"There is only one thing to do." I say twiddling my fingers. He looks up at me with tears streaking down his face.

"I can lose you, I can't." He says taking me in to his arms and crying in to my shoulder.

"Maybe you won't, Julia was a vet and CeCe was going to college to be a nurse, so maybe everything will be alright." I say trying to calm him down, but mostly trying to reassure myself.

"I lost my mom, when she gave birth to my sister." He says.

"Did she have someone there that knew what they were doing?" I ask. His crying slows down.

"Not really." He says.

"Well, we have two people here that have experience, we will get through this." I say. He picks his head up and looks into my eyes.

"I love you." He says.

"I love you too." I say. He brings his lips to mine. I kiss back for a moment then pull away.

"Come on let's go to bed. We can deal with this tomorrow." I say, since it's starting to get dark out. He nods and stands up and then helps me up. We walk inside, and pass some adults playing cards. We walk to our room. We both put our pajamas on and crawl in to bed. I curl up next to Carl and he holds me in his arms.

He kisses my head once before saying "goodnight" I smile to myself, and allow myself to sleep.
