Kankri picked up Karkat and Cronus followed. The four of them snuck out, Rufioh quickly grabbed a gun as they left in a hurry.

They began running away from the base, unluckily they didn't get very far. A gun shot rang out, followed by angry yelling. "Come on!!" Rufioh yelled, pulling everyone to go faster.

Karkat started calling for Cronus, then for Kankri. He was crying and shaking his brother.

"No, no, no..." Cronus' face turned pale. He quickly picked up Kankri's limp body. Rufioh picked up Karkat, who was screaming and crying.

"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. We have to go. We really have to go!" Rufioh apologized a million times as he carried the child.

After hours of running and being chased they finally got out of sight. Rufioh put Karkat down when he sat with everyone else. Karkat jumped up and ran to Kankri. He shook his brother, trying to wake him.

Rufioh watched in horror as everyone surrounded Kankri, he finally spoke in a soft voice. Karkat was crying and screaming, Cronus was speaking softly to Kankri, who was also speaking quietly. Kankri smiled slightly, saying something. He went limp and closed his eyes, Karkat started crying more and more.

Karkat started yelling, crying, and sobbing. He started throwing a tantrum as he watched his brother die. He wanted his brother to be alive.

"Come here..." Rufioh said with open arms, so Karkat understood. He walked over and threw himself into Rufioh. He sobbed onto Rufioh's chest. "Shhh...it'll be okay...everything will be okay..."

"Rufioh?" Cronus looked up at him. "What do we do with Kankri?"

"...um...we burry him I guess...that's all we can do...I'm...I'm so sorry...I'm sorry...I let all of you die and get hurt...this is all my fault! I'm so sorry!! I thought I could help you get to safety! I'm sorry!" Rufioh started apologizing, everyone looked at him. He didn't know what he was doing, he was scared and had just been attacked. He wanted to keep up the act of him being this well trained soldier who was level headed at all times. He wasn't that. Rufioh was still a kid and he had seen a lot in his short time at war.

"It is not your fault. Let us just burry Kankri..." Cronus sighed, picking up Kankri's cold, limp body. Rufioh got up, holding Karkat. All of them walked to an open field. It was near the train tracks. Rufioh and Cronus dug a shallow grave and placed Kankri inside. They put the dirt over him, covering his body. Karkat stared at the mound of dirt that was his brother. He slowly went closer and closer to it, laying on it eventually.

"...goodbye..." Karkat said, crying on the pile of dirt. Rufioh left him there for a minute, before picking him up.

"Let's get you to Switzerland..." Rufioh said quietly, holding Karkat tightly. A few more hours of walking and they ended up in Switzerland. "Here" Rufioh handed everyone a small piece of paper, which his base had told him to give to anyone that was in need of one. "It says that the military allows you to stay in here." He set Karkat down to go with Cronus and Eridan, only Karkat didn't grab a paper and started telling Cronus something.

Cronus then began yelling at Karkat, but Karkat defended himself. The two began talking for a while, Rufioh had no clue as to what was going on. He finally had enough of not being able to understand. "Hold on. What is happening?"

Cronus and Karkat continued talking for a few more seconds, before Cronus sighed and looked over at Rufioh and spoke in English. "No one made it to Switzerland. Karkat had known this. He does not have anyone waiting for him. He wants to stay with you."

Rufioh looked at Karkat, who was hugging him tightly. "Why can't he go with you? You've known him longer and he's probably safer with you! I'm in a war right now! This isn't a place for a kid!" Rufioh had been dealing with other refugees and after talking to them, some would do insane things. Some committed suicide, forcing Rufioh to watch. Others would purposefully harm themselves, trying to make sure they were still alive.
