"Mom, I'm leaving," I call to her.

"Okay, don't do drugs and--" she was cut off by Peter, my brother. He's three years older than me and a protective fend.

"And if anyone tries anything you kick their butt and then call me," he said, giving me a hug. I roll my eyes, but hug him back. My first year of 9th grade, Peter was a senior on the wrestling team and thought it would be a great idea to teach his sister a few moves. I agreed with him, so now I can 'kick the butt' of any unlucky bastard that comes my way.

"Okay," I tell him, pulling away from the hug. "Bye guys. I love you."

"I love too," I hear them call back as I'm closing the door.

When I get to Anna's I'm immediately greeted with hugs and hellos from both her mom and dad. I love them. The two of them have helped my family out more than I can say.

Anna comes down the stairs and grabs my hand to rescue me from all the love. "We're just going to go upstairs and get ready, so bye," she adds, turning to go back up the stairs.

We get to her room and on her bed I see the copy of To Kill A Mockingbird I got her in the seventh grade. We had to read it for literature circles and she fell in love with the characters, so for Christmas I got her, her very own copy. She pretty much freaked and reads it every chance she gets even now. Poor thing, didn't stand a chance from all the bends, spills, and highlights.

"You first," she exclaims, pushing me into her bathroom to get ready. I laugh and do as she says. Once I have my dress on, I look in the mirror and can't help, but think of Mia Thermopolis saying, "This is as good as it's gonna get." There's nothing wrong with my appearance, I'm just not what people would describe as a classic beauty. My hair is raven black and slightly frizzy. I have big black bushy eyebrows that contrast heavily against my pale white skin. 'I'm literally black and white,' I laugh to myself, before walking to the door.

"Okay, what do you think of this?" I ask, stepping out of Anna's bathroom and into her bedroom. I'm wearing my new knee high strapless dress with shimmering glitter on the bodice and a flowing grey skirt waist down. I saw it in the store and have been waiting for the perfect opportunity to wear it, so I thought why not tonight.

Anna, who has been reading a magazine on her bed, looked up and practically screamed. "That is the most stunning dress! You look gorgeous!" She said, coming over to me to get the full affect. She asked me to turn and, like any good model, I did. When I make my full turn, I see her lips have formed a huge grin. "Awe, you look so beautiful, Cels. Who ever this guy is, he's not even going to know what to do with himself once he catches a glimpse of you!"

Oh yeah. The guy. I have been contemplating back and forth whether to let her in on this massive weight I've had on my heart for the past few months and I finally decided, what the heck? So I told her about him. To be quite honest I'm surprised she hasn't figured it out, yet. Come on, she is my best friend. How could she not know I've been secretly daydreaming about the notorious player, Ethan.

Now, before you get all judgy on me. Ethan is not who everyone thinks. He really is a good guy. It just takes someone, who is actually looking to see it. Unfortunately, being as I've been practically drooling over him recently, I've noticed his fondness for looking at a certain blonde that goes by the name of Anna, which means, like always, my feelings will come second.

Not that I'm bitter. I love Anna. She's my sister, from another mister. But she does kind of get everything she wants. Not because she asks for it or because it's just handed to her. She's just lucky. Right family. Right cloths. Right time. Right place.

She has both Emmett and Ethan's heart and she doesn't even know it. What worse is, to be honest, I don't think Ethan knows it either.

"I'm going to go change and then we do make up," Anna announced, grabbing her black sweetheart dress off the dresser and heading to the bathroom.

While she is getting ready, I stare aimlessly at the ceiling full of birds. A few years ago Bryan bought Anna a book full of instructions for how to make different origami animals. We pretty much sucked at all of the other animals. Our frogs looked like they were dying, our bunny's looked like a paper ball with ears, and our bears were the biggest joke. So we made a bunch of the one we were good at, birds.

In the end she said that she loved them and we spent a few hours placing them all over her ceiling. We even took the time to name all of them, but I can only remember a few of them. The ones nearest to the door we each named after a well known bird based on it's color. Ethan named the yellow one Tweedy, Emmett named the blue one Zazu, Bryan named the red one Iago, Anna named the white one Scuttle, and I named the green one José Carioca. They gave me points for even remembering his name from the three amigos.

"Oy, girly, let's start the make-up!" I swear she is going to become a makeup artist when she is older and if she isn't, she really should. She has watched pretty much every make-up tutorial known to YouTube and has mastered everything. So watching her go to work is hysterical, but amazing, turning anything into a beautiful work of art.

By the time she is finished with our make-up, and I have successfully pinned both hers and my hair into place, we are ready to leave for the party.
