"So, Mom, what do you think," I ask her, waiting in anticipation for what she may say. I just finished presenting her my business pitch. It's a night club for kids under the age of 21. It literally took me two months to put together and I am planning on showing it to my father if it gets her approval.
"Honey, I like it," Mom said, giving me that look that just screams 'but there's something wrong.' She tilts her head to the side, purses her lips, and focuses her eyes. Great. Wonderful. 'You're gonna tell me or just sit there making faces all day until I pop!' I want to scream, but I don't.
"What is it?" I ask, trying to keep my cool.
My mom is, how should I put this, a royal pain in the ass. Yeah, I like that description. My father is never home and my mom plays the perfect classy wifey. We live in a house with more rooms than I can count on one hand. We have a maid, Lydia, and a cook, Rudy. They are good people, but it's all just too much. I want to scream my lungs out because it's all suffocating me! Honestly, if it wasn't for my friends I would have probably ended up in one of those fancy rehab facilities all the stars that can't handle their shit go.
Anyway, back to the issue at hand, my sweet mother decided my father and I required more bonding time, and in attempts to get that slow moving ball rolling; she thought it would be a exuberant idea if I pitched a business idea to him.
Please, tell me you caught that SAT word and the loads of sarcasm. If you didn't this is going to be a long night.
"Nothing. It's fine." Fine? Red alert. Okay Mom. I'm about to com-bust. I don't know if it's a woman thing or just her, but would it kill her to just tell me what she wants! I mean, seriously what do you people want from me! They act like it's not as simple as saying it. Like it's some big mystery. Let me just take an hour to decode your body language, facial expressions, and the last seven years of your life to find the answer.
Sorry. I'm off topic. My mom. I'm talking about my mom not all the other women in the world. All though, most of what I just thought completely applies to them. Nod, if you are with me. Wow. I can't believe I just thought that to myself. I groan internally. I will be in the loony bin soon enough.
"Just tell me," I sigh.
"I like the idea of creating a business, but the one you chose seems a bit, juvenile." Oh, would you look at that, she has finally decided to grace me with her opinion.
Wait. She likes only the idea, so basically she likes that she thought it would be wonderful for me to start a business, but she hates my business. Thanks Mom. Really appreciate it. How about this, because you came up with the earth-shattering idea, you come up with the business and I'll give it to Dad. Win win.
"Okay. Great. Thanks," I told her before walking away.
In the distance, I hear her say, "Anytime, sweetheart."
I just want to say, no, I did not forcefully shut my bedroom door upon entering. I am a grown man and we do not do that! I sit at my desk and repeatedly bang my head against the table.
I decide to stay in my room the rest of the day, until the party that is. And what's one of the best ways to blow off a day doing nothing at all? Chatting around.
Bryan's probably having an anxiety attack because the party will be starting soon, which means Emmett is probably over there. We all kind of nominated him keeper of calming down Bryan a long time ago. Celsey is most likely finishing up a long boring conversation with Anna and if I'm correct Anna will be on Facebook in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
Right on cue, Anna's picture pops up with a little green dot beside it, literally giving me the green light to talk to her. We chat a bit, before she ends it. As per usual, after my conversation with Anna my stomach does this weird fluttery thing that freaks me out.
This first started the summer of our ninth grade year, we were laying on the beach. She was tanning beside me listening to her music, some country crap, but then she started to hum it, and I don't know I just couldn't stop listening.
A year later, Emmett decided to declare his undying love for Anna. I personally think that's a load of crap. You can't just decided one day to fall in love with someone, who you use to make mud pies with. It's like falling for your sister. It grosses me out. I mean, sure we aren't all related, but might as well be. I know things about those girls that no other guy should know. I don't mean that territorial either. I mean, like literally, why was I privileged to this information. For instance, in a week and a half Anna will be moody and demand chocolate. I know that both Celsey and Anna chose to air dry their underwear. Misfortune event. I know Celsey shaves her legs once a week, while Anna shaves every other day. They thought one day it would be fun to have girl talk, while I was in the room. Like I said we are friends, I consider them my sisters, so the idea of any other feelings is ridiculous to me.
Not that I've ever really been in a relationship, which is something Anna likes to throw in my face every now and then. I don't mind. I find girls confusing, but sexy as hell and I'm okay to admit that.
I'm completely at a loss for what to do now, so I decide on a nap, why not? I lay back and rub my eyes. Almost, instantly sleep takes over.
"Ethan, come on," Anna calls to me. I can't tell where we are or what she's wearing, but I can see her face, her soft baby blues are shining, and her lips are formed into a smile causing her dimples to deepen. "What are you waiting for?" She giggles.
"What do you mean?" I question, confused by the scene unfolding.
"Ethan. I'm here. Where are you?" She sounds lost.
"I'm right here. Why are you being so cryptic? Just talk to me."
"Good," she smiles, right in front of my face. "Talk to me. Tell me," she whispers, suddenly in my ear sending a shiver down my spine.
"Tell—tell you what?" I stutter.
"Tell me the truth," her gaze locks with mine and she lays her delicate hand on my chest, "Tell me what's in here." Then, she lets her gaze drop to my lips before slowly leaning in...
I woke up sweating and entirely too uncomfortable. I can't remember what the dream was about, but I can't get one name out of my head: Anna.
