A/N- Yesssssssss this story hit 1K!!! To celebrate here's a chapter ^-^
I really didn't mean to scare Brendon; I just got so excited to hear something about Tyler!
"So, um what did Tyler say? Is he going to be ok?" I asked. My voice was quieter this time, which I'm sure Brendon appreciated
"He just wanted me to, um, let you know he was still alive. He got in a car wreck, but he should be back within the week I think. He has some broken ribs, but that's the worst of it. He actually crashed at the same spot you did."
"Yeah, I saw that on the news, but they didn't say if he was alive or how badly he was hurt. That's part of why I was freaking out so much, but thank you for coming here. But, may I ask you a question?"
"Sure."
"How is it that you're talking to me so casually? Because, you know, most people would be kind of weirded out talking to a dead guy..."
"I'm not most people," Brendon said with a grin.
"I have a ghost that lives in my house. His name is Dallon and I've known him about five years now, so I've kinda gotten used to talking to him. My wife, Sarah, knows about him too, but she's never talked to him. He spent three years helping me through a very hard time, and then a year after that I met Sarah."
"Um, did that hard time involve another ghost?"
"Yeah, and a lot of booze. Wait, how did you kno-...oh no. Tyler is going through the same thing isn't he? That's why you're still here?" Brendon's face went from nostalgic to concerned very quickly.
"Yes, but don't tell him you know! He'll get upset with me for saying anything!" I pleaded.
I needed Tyler to trust me, but Brendon is his friend and he can help Tyler at times when I can't. Anytime he's not here, I get worried sick about him. If I could still get gray hairs, I'd have two for every hour Tyler isn't with me. It'll help knowing there's at least one person out there with Tyler who knows what's going on and how to help.
"Ok, ok, I won't say anything. But, how can I help? I'm not going to just sit by and not do anything. He's my best friend." He crossed his arms over his chest and his eyes looked a little sad.
"I wish I had someone else to help me when I was going through it, but like Tyler I was afraid to say anything because I was afraid people would think that I was crazy. I just told Tyler about Dallon today because he mentioned you first. I mean, don't get me wrong, Dallon was absolutely fantastic, I love him to death and will be forever grateful to him. But, it would've been nice to have another person to lean on, you know?"
"Of course, I completely understand. Um, just try to keep him from being alone as much as possible, because that's when the other ghost can really get to him. I've been trying to keep him away from Tyler, but as you can probably tell by my jacket and t-shirt that look like they've gone through a paper shredder, it's kinda hard. It's also better if Tyler sleeps here, because the only time I can really fight with the ghost is when he comes out to mess with Tyler's dreams. The rest of the time, I can't do anything except talk to Tyler."
Brendon nodded his head in thought before responding, "I can help with that for sure. Thank you for letting me know all of this."
"Of course, like you said, you're his best friend." My mind was starting to wear out already due to my lack of rest these past 24 hours. I figured out that's the only reason I need to sleep; the more rested I am, the longer I can remain visible.
"I'm going to have to leave Brendon; I can't stay like this a whole lot longer; I'm too tired. I really appreciate you coming and talking to me and helping out with Tyler. It'll take a load off of my mind and make it easier to focus and plan out what I need to do in the mean time."
"Ok no problem. I'll try to swing back around tomorrow and update you on how Tyler is doing. See ya later."
"Sounds good, see you tomorrow." And with that I let myself fade from Brendon's vision. I watched as he left the apartment and locked the door behind him.
Knowing that Tyler is still alive and is going to be out lifted a huge weight off of my chest; I feel like I can breathe normally for the first time in 24 hours.
I'm also happy that now there's someone who knows what's going on and can help Tyler when I can't. It's even better that he's been through almost exactly the same thing. With my mind a little more at ease, I went into the bedroom and settled down for some rest. I'd like to be able to talk to Brendon longer tomorrow and Tyler whenever he does come home. I slowly drifted off into another dreamless sleep, or so I thought.
I haven't had one dream since I became a ghost, but this time I had one so vivid I could've sworn it was real. In the dream, Tyler and I were sitting side-by-side on a bench in the park.
We were just talking, laughing, holding hands...it was normal. Domestic even. We leaned towards one-another and shared a quick kiss before standing up, hands still intertwined, and walking through the rest of the park.
Then, the scenery changed. We were curled up in a bed together. Tyler had his head resting on my chest as we watched a movie. His hand was absent mindedly trailing patterns on my bare chest. His fingers were light and gentle, but I could feel the calluses on his fingertips from years of playing guitar and ukulele.
"Hey Josh?"
"Yeah?"
"Do you want to go buy a cat?"
I kissed the top of his head before answering, "Sure, anything for my Baby Boy."
"Sick."
Once again, the scene changed. I was working in the coffee shop once again. I even had a towel thrown over my shoulder that I used to wipe off the counters after I made a drink. I was in the middle of talking to Ryan, a kid with a coffee addiction that could rival Tyler's, when Tyler burst through the door clutching a piece of paper, eyes wide and hair windblown.
"Josh!" he said while running over to the counter. I politely excused myself from Ryan and turned to face Tyler.
"What's up babe?" Without a word, Tyler handed me the paper. I couldn't help but notice the ring on the index finger of his left hand, and then I noticed one on my hand too. As I read the paper two words stood out to me the most: ADOPTION APPROVED.
I was literally shaken out of my sleep, and when my eyes opened, I screamed. There was a face very close to mine.
An unfamiliar face.
I fell off the bed and scooted so my back was pressed against the wall. Why do people always scare me when they come to visit?!
"I'm so sorry! Pete and Patrick told me you were kind of jumpy."
"Why are you here?"
"Well, first Pete and Patrick came to talk to me about you and Tyler. And then, right after they left, Brendon came home and started talking to me about you and Tyler. So I thought I should come talk to you about you and Tyler."
"Wait, so that means you're..."
"Nice to meet you Josh Dun, my name is Dallon Weekes."
