Luke's pov

Me and Caroline went to a movie. She laid her head on my shoulder, her arms wrapped tight around my left arm. I smile down at her.

*later*

We were laying in bed, her asleep beside me. I get a text from an unknown number. "We need to have a talk." I read aloud confused. I text it back.

L: who is this?

UN: this is Luke Bryan, right?

L: depends on who's asking? Cause if you're a fan.....

UN: I'm Caroline's dad! And I'd like to have a talk with you about my little girl.

L: okay. I'm on tour right now in Louisiana. Where are you?"

CD: in Georgia. I'll drive up there and be there tomorrow.

L: alright see ya then.

I get up being careful not to wake Caroline and I kiss her head. She's so beautiful and perfect.

Jason's pov

All these memories that have been locked up all coming back to me, is really hard to process. Miranda rests her hands on my shoulders. "You okay?" "Yeah.... Just thinkin'." "Bout what?" "This shit with Caroline. I can't believe I used to date her. I can't stand girls like her." "She was probably different in high school." That's not true. I remember it now. She was the same. A big trickster. Which was one of the main reasons we broke up.

~flashback~

I was about to head out with the guys for mudding but she grabbed my belt loop, making me freeze. I turn around. "Darlin' what are ya doin'?" I ask, turning around to her. "Stay with me, Jay, I don't wanna be alone." I sigh. "But girl, this is the last time I'll be able to see the guys till summer's over. They're all going to camp." I would be too but she didn't wanna go and wanted me to stay with her. But she gave me the pouty face. "Oh fine. But you owe me one big." I grumble, pointing at her and getting my phone out.

~flashback over~

I know she did the same thing to Luke that night of the bonfire. We go to Luke's house since he was throwing a BBQ for the upcoming ballgame. He was grilling with Caroline on his arm. It's still weird between us.

Luke's pov

Brantley takes over grilling and I turn the game on and sit on the couch tiredly. I've been up all day and I didn't sleep too well last night. It's not the dawgs yet. I'm totally dreading her dad getting here. Caroline grabs my guitar. "What are ya doin'?" I ask, smiling. She plays it upside down in front of the TV. "Baby I can't see the ballgame!" I gasp, laughing. She doesn't care. I hear the door open but I'm too busy laughing at my girl.

Jason's pov

This crazy girl. "Jeez babe, are you drunk already?" He asks, making her laugh. He notices me standing there. "Where's your lighter?" He whispers. I uncross my arms and reach in my pocket. "I need it back later." I say, tossing it to him. He smirks and pockets it. "No you don't." Huh? "Luke!" I snap, annoyed. I know what he plans on doing. He runs off the bus with me chasing after him and Caroline laughing at us. "Gimme that lighter!" I shout. He laughs. "You'll never get it!" He says, holding it high above me. Dammit. Curse this being super short compared to Luke. "You want me to jump for it don't you?" I grumble, crossing my arms. He laughs again. "Maybe." He says, shrugging. "I'm not doing that." I say, glaring hard at the lighter, hanging above my head. I gotta time it just right. I swipe a hand up and miss it by mere fingertips. I'm gonna kill him for embarassing me like this. "You don't need this lighter and you know it!" He says, laughing. I glare at him. "You know why I do." I mutter, very annoyed. By now, people have begun to watch us. Including my wife. I can tell she's trying not to laugh. Along with everyone else. "It's because of your no good rotten girlfriend that I started smoking again!" I shout, punching him in the gut and stealing my lighter. "What?! Jason, you started smoking again?!" Crap. She didn't know nor does she approve of my on again off again smoking habit. "I uh...... Darlin' ya know I can't help it. And Luke's girlfriend only made it worse by pissin' me off!" "Smoking isn't gonna stop her from being a bitch, and killing yourself slowly isn't gonna help!" Crud. I'm in trouble now. "Yellin' at me about it ain't gonna help neither." I say, repocketing the lighter. "Give them to me, Jason." She says, holding a hand out. "Now darlin' ya know very well I can't do that." "I'm only trying to help you. Please hand them over." Ugh everyone is watching us. I'm so embarrassed. I glare at Luke. "You're gonna get it." I mutter. "It'll be worth it to get you off cigarettes again." I sigh and take them out of my pocket. She grabs them fast along with my lighter I worked very hard to get back. "And don't you buy anymore." She says, walking away and trashing them. Dammit. I punch Luke in the stomach again. "You're an ass." I mutter, furious.

Luke's pov

We all got pretty drunk tonight but nobody more than Jason. He stumblingly grabs a guitar. "Hey hey I got one guys." He says then busts out laughing. He strums to a song. "She's my best friend's girl..... But she used to be mine!" He sings that a couple times and laughs again. My eyes go wide. What's he talking about?! Caroline's face is super red. "What did he mean?" I ask. "We might've dated in high school." "Might have or did?" She sighs. "We did but I don't have feelings for him. I was just pissed he acted like he didn't know or remember me. But then he told me about the accident." "When he got shot, yeah." I say annoyed. "But he's okay and all." I add quickly. "Ok I'm out." I hear him say then he falls unconscious from being so drunk. What an idiot. "You alright?" She asks. I nod. "I'm not mad at ya."

*the next day*

Jason stumbles off the bus, so hungover he throws up on the ground. I shake my head and walk over. He rests both hands on the bus, trying not to fall over. "You alright?" I ask, trying not to laugh. "Don't you start with me. This is-" He throws up again. "Your fault!" "My fault? How is this my fault?!" I gape surprised. "You got my cigarettes taken away from me. It's either cigarettes or alcohol dude. Oh I'm so hungover I could just die right now." I pat his back. "Let's get you to bed." I say. "Oh man, my head." He chokes out. "Where's Miranda?" I ask, walking into the now empty bus. "She never stays the night when I get drunk like this. Usually hangs with Amber." He says, resting a hand on the wall. "Should I get her?" "I'd love that but she won't come. She doesn't like dealing with this." "Sorry man." "You can make it up to me by getting me more cigarettes." "I can't do that, Jason." "Aw come on man! She took my wallet too! I need them!" I bite my lip unsure. "I don't do nothin' stupid smoking but I'm a complete moron drunk!" I sigh and help him lay down. "Fine." I leave and get them very regretfully but he's right I'd rather this than the alcohol.

Miranda's pov

*later*

"Jason you aren't still hungover are you?" I call. "Nah." I hear him say. I open our bedroom door and there's smoke. I drop the bags in my hands enraged. "You're fucking kidding me!" I yell. "How'd you get these?!" "Luke got 'em for me. Look you hate it when I get drunk like I did last night, right?" I nod. "And you hate it when I smoke?" I nod again. "It's either one or the other baby." I sigh and sit down. He stamps it out in an ashtray and sits beside me. "Darlin' I told you that when we first started going out." "I know.... But I was hoping I'd be enough to make you quit." I say, sadly. He sighs and rests a hand on my leg. "I'll do anything for you baby but quitting is just one thing I can't do." I stare at my shoes. "I guess I have to learn to live with it." He nods. "Yep." He says, kissing my forehead. "Eww. You smell like smoke." He laughs. "Course I do." I roll my eyes. I wish I could get through to him.
