After we left the bank we all split up. Scott and I followed Boyd, while Derek followed Cora. We found him terrorizing two kids in the woods. While he was distracted, I sped the kids away. "Shhh you're safe now. I'm not gonna let them hurt you." I assure the kids.
The little boy clings onto my leg and the little girls seems to feel safer with Scott. Scott calls Derek for an update. "You lost them?" Derek questions. "Yeah, I kind of had to." Scott answers. "Wasn't exactly the plan." Derek states. "I know, which is why I think that we should stick together. Trust me, he's too strong, too fast, and way too angry for one person to handle. We've got to do this together." Scott says.
"Look, I'm at the trails by the entrance to the preserve. Can you two meet me here?" Derek asks. "Yeah. Just got to drop something off first." Scott replies. We bring the kids back home and meet up with Derek. "Is it them?" Scott questions. "We're not the only ones who decided to stick together." Derek answers.
"Is that gonna make it easier or harder to catch them?" I question. "I don't know." Derek answers. "Derek, I saw Boyd try to rip two little kids apart. Are they gonna do that to everyone they find?" Scott asks. "Anyone and everyone." Derek responds. "That is just lovely." I mutter.
We find Cora and Boyd attacking a woman in the woods. We fight them off and then we chase after them. Scott stays behind to check on the girl. Scott gets a phone call from Stiles. "Are you sure?" Scott questions. I turn on my hearing to listen in on the conversation.
"Yep. Throat ripped out, blood everywhere. It's like the freaking Shining over here. If two little twin girls come out of the woods, start asking me to play with them forever and ever, I'm not gonna be surprised." Stiles says. Stiles always the drama queen. "Can you get a little closer to make sure it was them?" Scott asks.
"Make sure it was them? Scott who else is going around ripping throats out?" Stiles questions. "Please just do it." Scott says and hangs up. "That doesn't make any sense. The public pool is all the way on the other side of the woods. We haven't tracked them anywhere near there." Derek states. "Derek they killed someone." Scott says.
"Hold on. There is a whole pack of alphas that could've done that. Also there are people called serial killers that are human. Just because the supernaturals are murdering doesn't mean the psychos stop." I argue. "How are they moving so fast?" Derek questions. "They killed someone. Some totally innocent kid is dead and it's all our fault." Scott says.
"It's my fault." Derek states. "We need help." Scott says. "We have Isaac now." Derek replies. "Not the kind of help he was talking about." I state. "I mean real help. They're too fast for us, for all of us. They're too strong, too rabid. We'll catch them." Scott says.
"What happens if we do manage to catch them. We can't hold them until the sun comes up." I argue. "Maybe it would be easier to just kill them." Derek says. "Killing them isn't the right thing to do." Scott states. "What if it's the only thing to do? If we can't even catch them, what else do we do?" Isaac questions. "Find someone who knows what they're doing. Someone who knows how to hunt werewolves." Scott answers.
Scott then goes to talk with Chris while we wait in the car. "Do you think this is gonna work?" Isaac asks. "Nope." Derek answers. "I don't think so either." I state. Chris pulls a gun on Scott. "So your sister? It's bad timing I'm sorry. I'll ask later. It's fine, or never. Yeah I'm good with never." Isaac rambles.
Scott gets into Chris' car and we follow them. Scott takes him to the crime scene. Of course Chris' guilt or a sense of duty to protect humans overpowers his common sense.
The boys all start making a game plan for catching them. "Can you guys handle this? I think that I'll do better as the cleanup crew. Compel everyone who saw us tonight. There is a list." I suggest. "That is actually really smart. Go right ahead. If we need anything we'll call." Derek says.
I first stop by the kids and compel them to believe that they caught fireflies and then went home. The last person on my list was the girl in the woods. Apparently she was taken to the hospital. When I walk in I see Melissa and Stiles. "What are you doing here?" I question. "I have no clue Melissa just told me to come here." Stiles answers.
"And if you tell anyone that I showed you this, I swear to God, I will kill you painfully and slowly." Melissa threatens. "Why do you want to show me a body I've already seen?" Stiles questions. "Because you haven't see everything. See this around his neck? That's a ligature mark. That means he was strangled with something like cord or rope." Melissa explains.
"What kind of werewolf strangles someone? You know that's not very werewolf-y." Stiles says. "My thoughts exactly. And then there's this." Melissa continues. She lifts his head and I see the head wound. "God, man, what is that? Is that brain matter? Yeah, it's brain matter of course." Stiles mutters. "I've seen worse." I state thinking back to the hybrid who got his heart shot out.
"See the indentation? He was hit in the back of the head, hard enough to kill him. In fact, any of these things could have killed him. I mean someone seriously wanted this kid dead." Melissa says. "This wasn't Boyd and Cora. We're what they call the apex predator, we want to rip people open with our teeth on normal days. With their urges kicked up to 100 they couldn't be this meticulous." I state.
"I don't think it was just one." Melissa says. "How come?" Stiles questions. "Because that girl over there has the same injuries. The M.E. said this one wasn't just strangled. Whoever did t used a garrote, which is a stick that you put through the rope, and you just keep twisting." Melissa informs us. She lifted the sheet to show that is was Heather.
Stiles just stands there tears forming in his eyes. "Oh my God, did you know her? I'm so sorry I didn't even think." Melissa says. "I was at her party. It was her birthday. Her name is Heather." Stiles states wiping his tears. My heart breaks for him. I wrap my hand tightly around his. "Okay we need to call your father because you're a witness." Melissa says.
Stiles looks like he's figuring something out in his mind. "Has anyone else been through here tonight? Any other bodies, or even anybody missing?" Stiles asks. "No bodies, but um, two girls. They brought the first one in, Caitlin, for a tox screen, and I overheard that her girlfriend, Emily just disappeared. I mean they were out in the woods and nobody's found her yet. I don't know." Melissa answers.
"Okay first one. Caitlin is she here? Is she here right now?" Stiles questions. "I think so." Melissa responds. "Okay where?" Stiles asks. "Just wait a minute." Melissa demands. "I have to talk to her." Stiles states. "Why?" I ask. "Because I think I know what's happening." Stiles explains.
We all go up to Caitlin's room, I had to go there anyway. "Hey that's one of the girls I saw in the woods." Caitlin says. "Yeah that's gonna have to change later. Right now I want you to answer our questions truthfully." I compel. "We weren't doing anything bad. I mean, I've camped out there plenty of times." Caitlin states.
"Right, but why tonight?" Stiles asks. "We wanted to be alone for one night. Emily lives with her mom and I have three roommates. Not exactly romantic settings you know?" Caitlin says. "How long have you two been together?" Melissa asks. "Three months." Caitlin answers. "And you wanted to make it romantic because it was her first time." Stiles says.
"They're gonna find her right? Aren't they?" Caitlin questions. "Caitlin you are going to sleep this off and when you wake up you are going to think that everything you saw was just a bad ecstasy trip. You never actually saw anyone with claws and glowing eyes." I compel. Caitlin drifts off to sleep.
Scott calls me to tell me that they got Boyd and Cora. Everyone is safe and alive which is important. "So what do you think this is?" I question. "I'll tell you when Scott gets here." Stiles says. We all meet in the morgue. "So Boyd and Cora might not have killed anyone?" Scott questions.
"You're gonna wish they did." Stiles replies. "Why?" I ask. "I'm not exactly sure yet. The other girl that was out in the woods, Emily? Eventually they're gonna find her. She's one of them. Emily, Heather, the guy Lydia found at the pool. All three were virgins. And they're all gonna have the same three injuries, strangled, throat slashed, head bashed in. It's called the threefold death." Stiles explains.
"So if these aren't random killings, then what are they?" Scott questions. "Sacrifices. Human sacrifices." Stiles answers. I pull out my phone and dial a number. "What are you doing?" Stiles asks. "If you're right about this, there is something more serious going on. There a certain type of magic that requires human sacrifices. Lucky for us, I happen to know a witch." I state.
