North sat Jack down in his office the morning after the globe incident. He also took the liberty of inviting the other guardians for a little-unscheduled session. Jack was focused today, he only froze one elf, and didn't bother shoving a yeti on his way up the workshop. He knew this was important and he wanted to make sure he was in no position to mess anything up again. Jack sat on his staff with a glass of eggnog in one hand. Bunny rolled his eyes almost each time North finished talking. He spoke of an idea that kept him awake for hours last night.
"This person was displayed on the globe for one reason or another. It could have been Manny, or it could have been Pitch. I am just saying that either way it was no mistake, and it cannot be ignored. We know nothing of this person, who they are, or who they are capable of being. I say we should find out, in case it is Pitch who showed us."
Tooth flew to the location of the light that no longer burned. "And what if it was Manny?"
Bunny snorted at this, "Are you really listening to him? North always acts upon a gut feeling, why should we have to follow through?" Jack felt the need to jump in before North and Bunny could even get the opportunity to disagree but didn't. He sat back with his glass of eggnog pressed to his lips and just watched.
"When have I ever been wrong?" Sandy floated beside Jack and created signals above his head describing how annoyed he was about the dispute about to unfold before them. It was almost always Jack causing an arouse between Bunny, but during winter Bunny and North had the ability to snap at each other for every little thing. Last week North yelled at Bunny for leaving behind a snow covered paw print on his white carpet.
After another long half an hour, the subject was taken care of. To Bunny's dismay, the guardians agreed with North. He collected information about the person but it was hardly useful. The only thing that they had left to figure out was how exactly were they going to find out about the person in question. Tooth suggested spying, as childish as it was Jack knew it was there only real answer. North was the first to object the position since Christmas was coming up quicker than he would like to admit, he had too much on his big hands already. Bunny was out of the question, since he argued that he cannot stay in a cold place for long or his tail could freeze off. Which left Tooth and Sandy, who both worked every night no matter the season.
The guardians slowly began to bicker amongst each other until Jack sighed raising his hand. "I'll do it."
To this North was the first to comment, "Really? You, of all people, are voluntarily doing something without a catch." All eyes fell on him.
Jack only shrugged with a small smile, "Listen, I am not a kid, I am part of this team now. Plus if I don't do it who else will?" Since no once could argue, it was settled. The other guardians left and Jack stayed with North again.
"Jack, it's great that you are doing this but be careful. You just need to get information on her, see if she is dangerous. If you find Pitch anywhere near her come straight back to us. You will not do anything without letting us know ahead of time." They spoke for a longer time, neither of the two realized how late it was until Phil came in for lock up. "And whatever you do, do not get too close to her. She can not know she is being watched." Jack understood what was at stake so he did not plan on disobeying orders quite yet. North wished him luck then left.
Now Jack sat alone on the roof of the workshop processing everything. His nerves shook and he had a feeling bubbling inside of him, something he hadn't felt in a while. He didn't know if he was nervous, or if he was excited. Jack had never been alone on any types of cases, not after what happened to Sandy last time. This was the opportunity he needed to redeem himself, in a way that would only make sense to him.
He stared at the snow globe North gave him, it was very enchanting. He could have flown to Arendale, but North insisted on taking the globe, so he can save up his energy for the time being. Jack finally admitted, he doesn't really know what is going on, and there was a part of him that believes neither do the others. Maybe Bunny was right this time, they were just over thinking the entire situation. Or maybe, just maybe, this was bigger than all of the guardians combined. He shook his head and ignored his thoughts. Then he shook the globe in his cold fingers and whispered Arendale ever so gently. The portal appeared as he threw the globe into the air, and he hesitantly leaped through the darkness.
