_present time_
Isn't it strange that whenever you get to a cemetery, it always felt gloomy? Like the people who were here are not over from their mourning and they left their sadness and emptiness at the place at the same time. And those feelings were painted there. It became like an old-painted wall that are wearing out. Everything looks old in the cemetery. The fence, the tombstones, the pathways... Even the grass looks deader than the grasses elsewhere.
We abandoned the people we once loved there. We couldn't stay with them. We have to be dead in order to be with them too. We need a reason to move on. To leave the pain of losing someone behind. It was like a long-lost lover waving goodbye to us. We can't simply let them go with only goodbyes. We need better reason to move on. Maybe when we left the cemetery, it was as if they said to us 'I don't love you anymore'. That's the best reason for us to leave someone behind, isn't it? What's the point of staying for a love that was already gone?
As the four of them got there, they are greeted by the tall Victorian-style fence and the grim-looking old gateway towering their heads. They knew where they are heading. This is because they had checked the log book of the log keeper by breaking in into the office just now and they've found out that Lot No. 402 belongs to a child that was dead about a year ago. They had no choice but to come at night since they don't want to be seen. People might think that they are grave-robbers or something. But... they are in a sense, robbing something. But it's not something to be sold for money.
So, with the shovels in their hands, they head towards the grave, feeling bad-ass but frightened as hell because they knew that this is do or die. Micah had warned them and it's only common sense to know that Micah will stop them at any moment. They feel like they're in a movie, where the good guys will fight for their lives and win in the end. If only this is just a movie. But this is not. They don't even know if they'll win.
As they reached the grave, they shovel the ground quickly. It looks easier being done in movies but in reality, it took a lot of effort, time, and determination to reach six feet under. At first, all of them just dig at once without thinking but not even half way through, they are worn out already. Because it's the hardest labor that they had ever done in their lives. "Why don't we take turn?" Alec suddenly made a suggestion. "Ya know we never make it at this rate, man," he added a simple truth to the end of his line.
Thus, they nodded their heads in agreement. Two of them go first and stop to rest while the other two took over. It works wonderfully. It's a lot faster and now they've reached the small coffin. There's a stench scent filling their nostrils. The smells of decaying flesh. Could there still be flesh attached to the corpse? They thought of the same thing. But they brave themselves and use the shovel to crack open the coffin and saw the piles of bones laid bare in front of them to see. No flesh. But there's still that foul smell all around.
They froze for a moment of silence, probably thinking back on their purpose to be there in the first place. Then, with no hesitation, Dominic pulls out the skull from the coffin and quickly gets out of the grave first. He is followed by Alec. Later comes Tony. And when it's Kyo's turn to get out of the grave, the wind is blowing strongly like there's an incoming storm and the stench smell gets even more overbearing. And they remembered. The scent. That familiar stench of a scent. Five years ago, they've smelt the same thing. Kyo turns his head around, but it's too late, his head got wrapped by the gigantic boney fingers. The smell of decaying flesh fills the air and all he can hear is the sounds of his friends screaming after him. "KYO!!!"
He couldn't see who had screamed after him. He just can see the glowing crimson colors of the creature's eyes staring at him in between the fingers that were wrapped around his whole head and face. Damn, he thought to himself. Is this the same as what Micah had been through before? The thought couldn't leave his brain. In that split second, it's all he can think about. I'll end up just like Micah. I'll be devoured. And my friends will run to save themselves. No one's gonna turn around to save me. Do I even want to be saved? He wondered. I do, he thinks again. But I don't need to be. This is it. His final thought was just to succumb to his fate and the boney fingers grip his head tighter. The pain is unbearable. "Arghhhh!!!!!" he managed a final scream as the fingers wrapped tighter and tighter around his head until there's only blood and pieces of flesh left in the creature's grasp.
