_present time_

As always, it must be two minutes before 6 a.m. that Dominic has his eyes wide open, staring at the black and blue ceiling of his room for ten long minutes before his alarm clock will start to beep on his bedside table.

And when it does beep, he will give out a long sigh, thinking of the nightmare he that he just had the night before. It was always the same nightmare. It's been like a daily routine for him now with the nightmares included in it. He is haunted by the past. A loop that he can't escape from. Over and over. How much longer can he be able to bear it? How much longer will it take for him to reach his breaking point?

The memory of being inside that dark woods with its' black leaves and tall trees, which in daylight, they must be dark green in color, but there in the night, they are all black. They are all one. Like a huge shadow towering you ... Taking over you.... It's almost as if they will consume you... ... Like what they did to Micah... ...

Another part of the routine comes next. Tears. Now Dominic has his tears shed. It slowly trickles down on the side of his eyes all the way to the nib of his ears where it tickles a little... and it's cold. His heart... however, is much colder than that. Micah was consumed that night... by... something. Some 'thing' that Dominic does not know of its' origin. He also does not know how to describe that... 'thing'. The 'thing' that had eaten his best friend. That creature... That monster.

He gets up slowly from his bed and gently wipes his tears away. The pain in his heart of losing Micah never diminishes. They said that time will heal but it's been five years since then. It never heals. It never goes away. His heart is filled with regret. He never got his chance to tell Micah that, since third grade, ... he has been in love with him. He'll never have his chance again. Never.

Dominic carries on with his routine. Bathing, dressing up, preparing breakfast, eating, ... and now only 5 minutes away before he will walk out of the door, get into his car, and drive to work. But he's about to find that, today, the routine breaks with a simple phone call. His cell-phone is ringing. Who would've called him this early in the morning? He thought. He looks at the number that appeared on the screen of his cell-phone. It is an unknown number. He sighs as he picks the call up, hoping for it not be some sort of a scam call.

"Hello"

"Hello. Is this Dominic Liam?"

"Yes. That's me. Who's there?"

"Dome son, this is Sheriff Kautnick. Do you remember me?"

"Oh my God, Mr. Kautnick? You're a sheriff now? How did you get my number? Why are you calling me?"

"Son, you gotta get back to Brackish Ville right away"

"What? Why? What's wrong?"

"... ... It's Micah. He's back."

Dominic found himself dumbstruck from the news. He lets go of the bag he held in his other hand unconsciously and it falls down to the floor in a loud thud. He does not utter a single word. His whole body is trembling. Was it for the excitement, the confusion, or the fear? He feels like his legs are getting weaker. He does not know how to respond. At first, he questions his own hearing. Is he hearing things right, right now? Is it an illusion? It's impossible. How can it be? It's impossible. What does it mean that Micah is back? Back from what? From the dead? That is impossible.

"Dome son? Dome? Are you there?"

He only responded a few seconds later when he had finally come to his senses. "Y-yeah. I'm here."

"He asked for you, Dome. ... ... He asked for you..."

Dominic gulps. His throat felt dry out of a sudden. No way... Micah? Is he really back? But he is sure that he had seen Micah being dragged away by that 'thing' that night. How can anyone survive that? And then what? Come back after five years? What about those five years? Too many questions. Too much confusion. But he won't find out until he sees Micah himself in the flesh.
