Chapter 16. Eclipse

_present time_

Heartbroken, tired, and helpless. Those were the only feelings available for them to feel. But that didn't stop them. It was dawn when they left the graveyard of Brackish Ville to the outskirts of town where the voodoo store is located. Time is crucial for them. It's late evening when they've reached the shop. It took almost a day of a drive in Tony's old jeep just to get there. Now there's no turning back. Just like how those people abandoned their loved ones there at the cemetery, they have to abandon their grief for Kyo there too. If they survive this, there are plenty of times to grieve later.

Tony looks down on his watch, feeling a knot in his tummy. "Guys...," he called to Alec and Dominic. "It's only almost 6 p.m. but why is it so dark?" he asked.

And the other two now realized of that grave fact. Acting on their impulses, all of them look up to the sky. It was bright just a few seconds ago but now it's total night-like darkness. And to their horror, they saw the sun under eclipse. Winds is blowing strongly. Like a storm is coming. A terrible one. At that instance, they recognize the familiar situation. "Shit. We better fucking hurry," Dominic pushed them towards the store. "He's here!"

Hurriedly, the three of them ran, ignoring their tired legs towards the small hut of a voodoo store. The moment they entered the store, they can smell the scent of decaying flesh again. But this time it is not of the similar familiar scent of the creature. It is a new kind. And they knew at that instant what they're about to witness but it's too late to look away now. They saw the pieces of flesh and bones on the floor, covered in blood and swarming flies.

"Argghhhh!! No!! Sorry, Dome! I can't do this anymore!" Tony screamed, engulfed by his fears. And he storms out of the store, running towards his jeep. That's the only route he can go. He wants to escape. He'll just run away and drive elsewhere. Anywhere but here. He couldn't care anymore. This is not on him. He'll just save himself. Fuck everything else.

"Tony!!!!" Dominic and Alec screamed after him. But Tony ignores them, unaware that his friends were screaming after him not for fear of him running away. But for fear of his life. Because they saw 'it'. The creature is already there waiting for him outside.

"Fuck!" Alec cursed, refusing to see anymore so he rushes back into the inner part of the store, refusing to take notice of the gory details on the floor but focus on items he has to look just in order to get things over and done with. Luckily for him, everything is labeled in the shop so it makes his work done faster. He just needs to find some zombification powder and a charmed necklace.

He heard the scream outside. That's Tony's voice and he saw Dominic covering his mouth, whimpering soft cries, with his legs shaken as he kneels down to the floor and cries louder. He quickly grabs the items once he saw them under the label. He is not even sure if he took the right items but it does not matter anymore at this rate. He takes whatever he thinks is right and hugs those things tight in his chest. All he can think of right now is the logical course of actions. "Dome, get a hold of yourself!" He ordered as he shakes his friend's shaken body the moment he got to him and the items fall down to the floor in front of him.

Dominic just stares blankly at the items. He is still crying. "Take these," Alec said. "I'll distract that 'thing'," he said. Dominic had never seen such determination on Alec's face before. And Alec looks outside a little to see Tony's remains on the ground not far from the jeep. His heart feels the pain of losing him but it does not matter now. "You can do this, right? It has to be you," Alec asked.

"What are you talking about?" Dominic asked, realizing what Alec is about to do but he refuses to believe in it just yet.

"Take these, get the keys to the jeep from..." He meant to say Tony but... should he said Tony's dead body? Or the dead man? Tears slowly trickles down from his eyes. No. It's time for logic. No room for feelings. "The keys are in Tony's pocket. Just drive away. Before the full moon rise, Dome. Remember that," and with the end of his words, he runs outside. "Hey bitch! Come at me!" He screamed after the monster and runs away from the jeep, giving a clear way for Dominic to get going.

Dominic struggles to get up. He wanted to stop Alec but he knows that Alec only did what he had to do. Alec and his logic... Therefore, he braves himself. This is for his friends or everything would be for nothing. He knows that he'll only get to the woods probably in early evening. Before night time, he must be done with the ritual. This is the only way. This is the only thing left to do. Or else it will be for nothing.
