"Naruto, we're going to be late!" Sasuke shouted from the bottom of the steps as he ignored the two grown men fighting at his side. "Hurry up before these two kill each other!"
"I said I'm coming, wait a minute!" Naruto's voice brought a smile to the Uchiha's lips as he knew he had annoyed Naruto now. He had been bugging him since about almost an hour ago.
"Ngh!" Hidan grunted as Kisame had punched him deeply in the groin. "Motherfucker!" He cried out, using his leg to trip the taller man. "I'll reign victorious!" He shouted as he placed his knee on Kisame's chest and lifted the TV remote in his hand. "I win!"
"None of you win, we're leaving." Naruto finally made it downstairs, throwing a jacket on while Sasuke opened the door.
"Correction, you're leaving. I'm house sitting." Hidan corrected, throwing himself on Kyu's brand new couch. "You go to your little whatever it is your going."
"You hearing this? The bastard says he's house sitting." Kisame scoffed, pulling himself up. "Hidan, there's nothing to house sit, this place is empty." It was true, the new house was barely in the early stages of decoration, nothing but a simple black couch and a TV occupied it. And while the rest of their stuff had yet to be transported, Naruto preferred staying in this new house, where nothing reminded him of the past.
Honestly, anything was better than looking back at the place where everything reminded him of that guy.
"Excuse you, it's not empty." Kurama spoke as he walked in, pulling Sasuke out of the house to hurry him towards the car. "Guys, hurry up." He said as he dragged Naruto along, too. Hidan sighed in despair as he turned off the TV and got up, brushing his white tux clean.
"Why the fuck do I have to wear this?!" He barked, closing the door behind him as Kisame adjusted his own tie. "Why white?!"
"Just leave it." Kisame advised. "It just a couple hours."
"Honestly, I never thought Konan to be into all this classical shit." Hidan spat as he followed Kisame to Sakura's car where Ino and Sakura sat inside waiting. The two had been laughing at something when the backseat door opened and both men entered.
"Ready?" Sakura asked, turning the car back on as Kisame closed the car door. She received a nod in return as Kisame leaned in between the driver and passenger seat to turn on the car radio in hopes of drowning Hidan's complaining.
"Are they following us?" Kurama asked as he kept his eyes on the road ahead.
"Yeah." Sasuke assured. He sat back in the backseat, watching how Naruto laughed up ahead while Kyu continued blabbering about how nervous Pein sounded when he called moments earlier. Naruto had returned to his old self, but the Uchiha knew this was just an act. So far, two months of therapy weren't going to rid Naruto over his trauma, not even a little bit. Naruto was still restless at night, always needing the confirmation that Sasuke was right next to him, holding his hand. Any random sound made him jump, any random glare either directed his way or not made him wary. Who knew what really went on inside his head when he spaced out?
Sasuke closed his eyes, letting Naruto's laugh bring another smile to his lips, followed by a tormenting image of Naruto being held in Itachi's grip. Blinking his eyes open, he allowed himself to breathe before calming down, Naruto was safe, that much he knew. Itachi had been taken down and arrested, and while Neji assured there were other ways of doing things, Sasuke agreed when he said this was what he could do to bring an animal down.
But still, the image was burned to his eyes. It never failed to discomfort him. Of course, Naruto would say things were okay now, Itachi was captured and nothing could bother them anymore. Sasuke admired that, but he knew Naruto felt the same as him.
"Okay, get out." Kurama spoke, turning the car off as Naruto stepped out. "We're here."
"Hey, put this on or Konan will kill you." Naruto pushed a red tie onto Sasuke's chest, the Uchiha raising an eyebrow questioning why Naruto would do this to him.
"No." He frowned. "Between Konan and that thing, both would end up killing me. I choose death by psycho-Konan."
Naruto laughed. "Fine, forget Konan, then. How about you put on the tie, or I won't sit next to you." Sasuke frowned even more. "Sitting next to Ino and Sai is always fun." Naruto shrugged, smiling in victory as Sasuke whipped the tie of his hands. The two joined Sakura, Ino, Hidan, Kisame and Kurama as they walked up to the privately rented restaurant.
"Hey, isn't Konan here yet?" Sasuke asked, leaving his tie loose. "You liar, I don't have to wear thi-" Sasuke kissed back as the blond smiled into his lips. "Fine, whatever." He rolled his eyes, tightening it a bit. Naruto grabbed his hand as they looked around the fancy interior.
"There you are!" Pein threw his hands up, walking over to Kyu and Naruto. "Guys, please tell me everything's going to go fine, I'm freaking out!"
"Actually, we have bad news for you," Kyu started. "Konan isn't coming, she chose your other friend and went with him." Receiving a hard nudge to his side, Kyu burst out in laughter, apologizing to a more freaked out Pein. "Kidding, she's on her way."
"Hey, you know I love you, right?" Sasuke asked out of nowhere, grabbing Naruto's hand as Kyu walked behind Pein.
"...of course, I do, why?" Naruto asked.
Sasuke shrugged. "No reason, just making sure." He winked. "I love you."
"You know, jus because Pein is going to ask Konan to marry him doesn't mean you shou-"
"Ha, ha, ha." Sasuke sarcastically laughed, pulling Naruto towards his side in a side hug. "I've been found out, what should I do? Damn, and I thought it was going to go smoothly." He said in a monotone voice, earning a chuckle from the blue eyed blond in his grip. "One day, Naruto. One day I'll make sure to make you mine forever."
"How cheesy." Naruto laughed. "I'm kidding, I'm kidding."
As Sasuke was about to say something else, the room suddenly erupted in a surprise as Konan entered completely unaware of what was going on. Deidara had made sure to walk in with her to keep her distracted in a pointless conversation. Naruto and Sasuke laughed as they took in her surprise, Kurama jumping as Pein walked up to her, completely nervous and of course, fucking up his words.
Naruto watched as Konan began covering her mouth, probably knowing where this was going. He smiled, already knowing the outcome of Pein's question. He thought about it, if he would ever be happy like that. Would he be happy in the future? Would he ever be able to forget or get past all that's happened? Itachi had pretty much fucked him up, ruining his ability to be completely happy without worrying about what could happen next. A happy ending like that, would it be possible?
The blond scoffed lightly. Of course not. To a story like his, there simply wasn't a happy ending.
Itachi would be everywhere even if he wasn't. Everything would remind Naruto of him. A happy ending wasn't suited for him.
"...and then, when you least expect it, you'll wake up one morning with a ring on your finger and that's when you'll know." Sasuke's voice distracted the blond from seeing Konan hug Pein in happiness. "Right?"
Naruto smiled a bit. "Sorry, what?"
Sasuke groaned. "Really?" Naruto nodded. "I basically confessed to you my plan and you didn't listen to it? I said get ready because one of these days it's going to happen." He repeated, taking the look on Naruto's face as confusion. He rolled his eyes and chuckled. "Forget it, it'll be a surprise." He said, leaning in to kiss the boy deeply. "Just try not to cry like she's doing, okay?"
Naruto looked over to Konan, watching her whip tears off her face as everyone congratulated her. The waiters had come out from the kitchens to place food upon the decorated tables. He looked down at his hand where Sasuke gripped tightly at it, and thought, maybe he could be. Maybe not now, but one day, he would find a happy ending, and he hoped that when that day came, Sasuke would be there standing right beside him.
