Chapter Twenty Three ~Surprise

Two days: that's how long it took Pandora to fully recover and, in that time, the blood was rationed. They had enough left to feed one and Tobias did his best to sneak some blood packets out of Fox's headquarters.

"It's not her," Jax reassured her for the hundredth time.

"Fine, okay, I'll hunt for blood. I can smell the dead bodies already. Not too far, but it's further than I'd like it to be." Her tone was harsher than intended to be; she was yet to believe Jax about her mother not being the test subject.

"How many?"

"Three."

Behind them, Darren and Eva stood beside each other in front of the door. Darren cringed at the conversation, unable to stomach it. Dead bodies and blood was definitely not his thing. He preferred his victims very much alive so that he was able to blackmail them, the only exception being Eva; he wanted her dead in any means possible.

"Great, that'll last us a few months the very least," Jax smiled, licking his lips. He felt weak from the lack of blood since most of it was given to Pandora to gain her strength. He could taste the freshness already. He sniffed deeply into the air, gaining odd looks from Darren and Eva.

"So what's going to happen?" Eva asked, distracting herself from his weirdness.

"Pandora and you are going hunting and in the meantime, I will look for Fox's weakness. Then, we attack!"

"Why me?" Eva protested, frowning at the orders.

"Because if you get ambushed while Pandora is collecting the blood, you'll be able to use the crest," he replied bluntly. He was getting tired of all the setbacks. He had been planning for years and the fact that their first attempt to regain stability down at the core backfired, he was very angry. "And we don't have time for arguments. Every second wasted, is a second longer for Fox to rule."

"Let's go then," Pandora ordered, grabbing Eva's arm on the way out of the door. The other two followed her, halting at the door of the cave.

"Remember, I'll step out of the gate for a few seconds every five minutes so give me a shout if anything goes wrong. That way, I can hear your call without being detected if anything."

"Got it, Jax. You talk way too much. Let's just get on with it!" Pandora retorted, stepping out of the cave with Eva in tow and teleported into a house in the middle of nowhere.

The room they had teleported into was wrecked; the wooden table was broken in half with one leg off, the little blue sofas had stuffing seeping out of them from the gun shots they received and the cabinet had fallen over. One dead body was limp on the sofa, another bent over the broken table and the other by the door of the room. Glass was shattered all over the floor.

"What happened?" Eva's eyes grew wide. She wasn't shocked at the brutality, but at the extent of the mess.

"Most likely shot from resistance of a burglary," Pandora answered, kneeling besides the man over the table. She whipped out a few plastic packets.

"How can you be so sure?" Eva twirled on the spot, careful not to cut herself on anything by moving, taking in the sight.

"I'm Pandora, that's how. And this is going to take a while since these packets are so small so keep an eye out just in case." Pandora poked a few holes using her teeth into the skin of the man lying before her and placed the packets under each hole, collecting the blood that came seeping out. She couldn't help but lick some of the blood off the neck.

"Are you afraid something will happen?" Eva snorted.

"Nope, just wary."

A few minutes passed in silence; Pandora kept collecting and Eva kept watching nowhere in particular.

"How much longer?" Eva appeared irritated.

"I've not even drained out one person, let alone all three. Be patient and keep alert, will you!" Pandora grunted.

To distract her from the wait, Eva began taking light steps towards the man by the door. She bent down to examine the face; everything was intact apart from a hole in his head. His face was full of spots which caused Eva to lift her nose.

"You might not want to take this one, he's disgusting," Eva commented.

"Now, now, now, my dear, our kind don't discriminate."

Eva snapped her head up and Pandora turned to face the door as the voice came from above Eva. They both gasped as they perceived Fox standing over Eva and the dead body.

"Surprise!"

A/N ~ Hey guys! I'm really sorry for the late update; I think it's been over a month. I just didn't have much time with work taking up most of my hours, plus, I wasn't feeling this story line anymore for a line. I am aware that the chapter is really short and lacking in drama or anything but the next chapter will be a bit of a shocker so if you please just hold on, this may get more interesting for you.

Thank you everyone who is still sticking by the story. I hope you enjoyed the chapter and let me know of your thoughts. Vote if you believe it deserves it and let me know of what you think may happen next.
