Hey y'all. I'm so very sorry for the late upload. I'm not even sure how long ago I had uploaded in. With work and everything, it's really difficult to find time to write anymore and so these uploads have delayed even more, but don't worry, I will not leave this story unfinished. I promise y'all that I'll try and have this story finished whether it's the last thing I do. haha. Anyways, I hope you all are enjoying the story so far and this chapter is pretty uneventful, where the next chapter will be a big one I guess.

Saying that, the story is almost coming to an end though, so let me know of your thoughts by leaving a comment please. I may go back and edit the whole story as I'm not sure if  I like where it has come.

Anyways, happy reading and hope you enjoy ~ Zana

Chapter twenty six ~A Speech To The Army

The air to Eva's lungs was cutting short as the hands around her neck tightened. The others watched with shock as they took in the scene before them. Then, Jett suddenly recognised the one who was strangling her and saw the motion of the other bodies following in his pursuit, making their way towards Eva with anger.

"Rex, buddy!" Jett began, going for a peaceful approach. "Let her go. We're not here to fight with you."

"Why should I? She killed me, so much pain, so little mercy." The hurt was portrayed through his tone of voice and yet he still never let her go.

"You're alive now, though." Jett attempted another tactic.

All the while, Jax tried to keep the others away from Eva and in the corner of the basement.

"I am? I am, but how?" The confusion caused Rex to release Eva and she immediately exited the room as she clutched her neck, resting against the wall on the other side.

"We need your help. Eva brought you back to life," Jett explained.

"Hurry up, Jett! These guys aren't too happy and I don't know how long I can keep them back here!" Jax shouted, his arms stretched out either side of him.

"And why should I help you? Why would I help someone as ungrateful as her?" Rex stomped, although, it was more of a squish sound than a stomp.

"She's changed and she regrets everything she has ever done to you all." Although Jett was unsure whether this was the truth, he decided to say anything that would bring them on their side. "Look, there's a very bad man who is trying to take control of everything and everyone. He is the ruler of a very distant place, but if we're not careful, he will take control of all those on earth, too. I know you all, I know that you all have a family that you love and care for, that you will do anything for them. Do you not want your families to be safe and protected?"

All the skeletons and decayed bodies roared, listening intently to the speech.

"How? Who is this man?"

"I ––"

Jax interrupted Jett. "People's lives are at stake here. We must not waste time because he will destroy anything and everything if he is not stopped."

"What will we get out of this?" Rex was warming up to the idea of helping them, although, he very much wanted things out of it too.

There were roars of agreement from the other living dead.

"Your families will not be harmed, they will be free and safe." This was not convincing enough and so Jax continued, "You all can also be free once all this is over."

"So what do we have to do?"

While they all questioned Jax, Jett had exited the room and found that Eva was sat on the floor, her back resting against the wall. He took a seat next to her and pulled her into a silent hug. Nothing needed to be said, he knew that she understood the situation.

"I'm going to have to apologise to them all, aren't I?" She eventually sighed.

"Don't you want to?" Jett began to stroke her hair, in the hopes that it would calm her.

"I don't know," she admitted.

"Don't you understand how wrong it was; to try and control everyone just because you have the power to? Hasn't this taught you anything? You are not helping anyone by being stubborn, Eva. Can I tell you something?"

Eva nodded her head.

"I was scared of you up until I saw this side of you. What did you gain by creating fear within others?"

"It made me feel really powerful."

"But were you ever happy?" Jett sighed. He was unsure now, whether she did understand or not.

"Never."

"Do you get it? You gain nothing from greed, from power that has no love. It's not about good versus Evil, right versus wrong. We're all having a battle of our own. After Fox is defeated, what will you do? Will you go back to your old ways. Eva, I have watched you take in so many things recently. I know you understand the situation. I know that you're not all evil. When are you going to wake up to that and admit it?" Jett held her tighter.

"I do get it, Jett. It's just, that's the only life I have known. What am I without power?" Eva felt the weakest she had her whole life in that very moment. To admit something like that was very difficult for her.

"Eva, we need you. You need to gather yourself and take control of this situation. You're so much more than just power. Go back into that room, apologise to them and lead us all to victory. You're born to lead!"

The pep talk seemed to have given Eva a new determination. She was up on her feet within seconds and was ready to march back into the room to motivate the living dead. First, she had to mentally prepare a speech before she could go in.

"Ready?" Jett asked after he also stood up.

Eva nodded and headed back into the room, cutting off Jax's answer to a question. The living dead had cooled down a lot since Jett exited the room. They seemed to be more under control.

"Listen up everyone. I'm terribly sorry for the pain I have caused you all and your families. Please forgive me and I will forever be in your debt if you help us out this time. You are the best men that I have had and if anyone can defeat Fox and his army, it would be you. You have spent most of your living lives in combat, in training to fight if something like this ever occurs and the time has come. We have no time to train, but remember your skills of old. You can all do it. In a few hours, if not less, you will all be in a battle to save all humanity. Who's ready?"

The response was not expected and they all were geared up to battle. The little speech helped and they all began staggering out of the basement behind Jax. Eva and Jett were the only ones left behind and Jett watched Eva closely. He wasn't sure if she meant any of that but he couldn't have been more proud of her.

"Eva, before you go. I have something to tell you." Jett grabbed Eva's arm before she could exit the room.

"What is it?"

"It's about Darren. I still don't trust him and he's ––"

"I know that you don't like him but can we deal with this all afterwards. How can you be thinking about him at a time like this?" Eva became irritated. A great battle was about to begin and all Jett could think about was his jealousy, were Eva's thought.

Eva yanked her hand away from Jett and began following the others out of the room and Jett was left with silence.
