Chapter 10

**Harry's POV**

I kinda, sorta, in a way, like Emily. There, I said it. I mean she's nice and pretty but anyone with eyes can see that she and Max like each other. I don't think Max see's is though. And I don't think Emily see's it either. Maybe Niall likes her too but I can't tell yet but what's not to like! She is gorgeous, nice, caring, talkative (but not too talkative if you know what I mean.), and she is the humblest person I have ever met. She thinks that no one in the world likes her and she is not attractive. Honestly, it's the total opposite! I bet dozens of guys at her school are willing to go out with her but they're too afraid to ask. 

Speaking of school, Mackenzie told Liam that today is the last day of school for her, Emily, Max, and Tom. She said that the principal always throws a lame "last day of school party" and he forces everyone to go. I would hate that. 

Tom said that he and Mackenzie were coming late so they could miss the party but Emily and Max were forced to go by their parents. So I decided that I would surprise Emily and Max by coming to the party and turn drab to fab! That sounded really gay but whatever. 

At the moment, I'm at our condo and I'm the only one awake. All the lads are asleep except Zayn who's over with Perrie. I'm about to leave when Niall comes trudging down the stairs. 

"Harry?" He says. "Where are you going? Don't tell me you're going to that new cafe down the street with the really hot waitress because I called dibs." 

"Don't worry, I'm gonna surprise Emily at her school-" 

"I called dibs on her too!" Niall cut in. Ugh, I knew it.

"No you didn't! Plus I'm going to see her now so she'll probably love me more than you." I said.

"What? That didn't make any sense." 

"I don't care. I'm going to see her now though." I said. ''See you later." 

"Fine. But I will get her. May the best man win." Niall said with confidence. 

"Deal." I said while shaking his hand.

Fortunately the high school is pretty close to the beach. It's within walking distance but I drove instead. As soon I parked the car, I got weird looks from all the guys and good looks from the girls. I followed everyone into school and into the cafeteria were the "party" was going on. I searched around for Emily discreetly until a girl noticed me and shouted "Hey look it's Harry Styles!" and that's when the girls started swarming. 

**Max's POV** 

As we're walking into the cafeteria, all I see is a mob of screaming girls and their "dates" to the party standing around in a corner. 

"What in the world...?" I said

"Let's go check it out." Emily replied. 

"You go look, I'll wait over with the guys. Come over when you know what's up. Okay?" 

"K." She responded.

As Emily and I walked separate ways, I could here the guys calling my name. 

"Yo Max!" and "Max, c'mon over here!" rang through the cafeteria. I walked over to Mark, a guy on the football team, who was one of the guys who was calling my name. 

"Hey, Max, why are you late? The party started like a half hour ago." He asked. 

"Emily and I decided to go on a trip down Memory Lane." I said.

"Dude, what's gotten into you? Man up and quit smiling like a mushy love bird." Mark says while pushing my shoulder.

"Shut up, Mark. I am not a mushy love bird and I am not in love with Emily." I replied.

"You sure about that?" Adam, another guy on the football team, said. 

"Yes, I am positive. Emily is just a really great friend that I have known since birth. I would never go out with her in a million years because she is just a friend and that's all she is. Nothing more." I said forcefully. I look around at the guys in front of me and they are all looking behind with a very awkward  expression on their faces. I turned my head to see what they were looking at and behind me stood Emily looking sadder than I've ever seen her. 

"Uh, Emily, how long have you-" and before I could finish the sentence, she ran out the door.

Uh oh. I should not have said that.
