The school bell rang to announce the end of the school day almost an hour ago. Nearly everyone had cleared from the school including the teachers, so it was only until the caretakers came to the school in a couple of hours, the school would be empty.

Kaito had remained seated, whilst his cousin, sister and friends went home not mentioning for him to come with. He would have said no anyway.

Standing from his seat, he noticed how the golden light of the setting sun had covered both the sky and the classroom. Making it almost glow amber.

He slid his hands into his trouser pockets, admiring the scene of the sun setting. "Not long now."

"It's a beautiful sight, isn't it?"

Kaito whipped round to face the source of the voice. He smiled. "Kazumi? What are you doing here? I thought you went home."

Kazumi was stood in the doorway, her back pressed against the doorframe, one foot crossed over the other. Giving the side of her the only view for Kaito to see.

She turned to face him with disbelief. "Wow, did you just acknowledge me?" She asked with fake surprise. After a whole day of not getting a clear answer, there was only so much a person could take.

"Now that isn't very fair, is it Kazumi." Kaito complained, but his tone still seemed collected.

Kazumi straightened before pushing herself away from the doorframe. With soft steps, she made her way towards her brother's desk. Kaito followed her movements, and watched as she stopped to stand a little distance in front of him.

"Look, I don't want to seem pushy," Kazumi began, her arms still crossed against her chest. "But I know there is something wrong with you."

Kaito rolled his eyes. "Not this again."

"No Kaito listen to me." She placed her hands on her hips. "There is something you're not telling me, I just know it. You know, I thought something bad had happened to you. I thought that maybe the Magpies had taken you, or the organisation that is after you had managed to get a hold of you."

Kaito smirked. "Wow, that's a big step to think." He turned around to look out the window again. "I guess that's why he's so protective over you."

Kazumi's eyes faltered with sudden confusion. "W-What?" A chill ran down her spine, making her feel uneasy. "Kaito, what are you talking about? Who's 'he'?"

Kaito turned around again to face her, a sickening smirk curving his lips. "Why do I protect you?"

"I didn't ask you to, I can handle myself like I have shown you." Kazumi added confidently, not knowing where the conversation was going. "But as my big brother, you have been protecting me as a guardian sort of. Why are you asking this?"

Kaito leant down a little to become eye level with her. "Answer me this Kazumi. What did the pain that the Magpies put you through feel like?"

Kazumi's heart began to race. She was not liking this. And she wasn't liking the look of scrutinising intimidation in his indigo eyes. The look didn't belong to him. Those weren't the eyes of Kaito.

"Are you really expecting me to answer that question?" She answered, trying her best to hide her nervousness. Or was that fear she was feeling?

Kaito straightened again, his smirk unwavering. "Human emotions and feelings are only petty things that make humans... well humans."

Okay, now she was too lost for words. She raised an eyebrow. "Kaito, what are you talking about?"
