He was only tiny, as his cousin was also. His cousin gave him the fever that made him sick that day, but they were only two years old and they loved to spend time together, not aware of it being contagious.
Little Kaito had become worried when he noticed his father return home in a hurried and worried rush. Little Kaito was awoken by the sound of the front door being slammed open, and his father running into the house to run to his mother.
Curious about the situation, little Kaito sat up from where he lay on the couch. The damp towel that was placed on his forehead, in order to calm down his heightened temperature, had fallen off on to the layers of blankets that he was cocooned in.
His father and mother had quickly kneeled down in front of him to tell him that Toichi's friend, Jii, would be looking after him whilst they went to play school to check on his sister. Wanting to go with them, Kaito moved a little too quickly off the couch and ended up falling to his knees, his body still weak with the fever.
Chikage quickly placed him back on the couch and told him that he had to stay at home with Jii. With that, she hurriedly kissed his head and ran out of the door to join her husband.
Little Kaito could hear the sound of his father's car driving away from the Kuroba household fast. He went to ask where they were going when an eruption of coughs shook through him.
Jii reassured him and patted his small back, helping him sit up so he could drink some water to cool his heated and rough throat down. He knew what was going on, but to tell a toddler such news would just be heartbreaking. The only ones who had the right to tell him were his parents.
Little Kaito had slept peacefully for a good few hours before he was again awoken by the sound of the door opening. Slowly opening his eyes, he noticed that it was late at night. How long had he been asleep?
Turning his gaze towards the direction of the door, he was in full alarm to see his father holding his mother in his arms. She seemed to be sleeping. But when Kaito saw that both of his parents' faces were stained with tears, he sat up and made sure to carefully climb off of the couch. With his tiny feet on the floor of their living room, little Kaito toddled over to his father, who now had his back to him as he laid his mother on the other couch.
Worried for his mother's condition, little Kaito pulled on his father's trouser leg, catching his attention. When Toichi's eyes locked with the large indigo eyes of his son, he quickly knelt down and enveloped him in his arms.
Little Kaito was a little confused, but tried his best to return his father's large hug. "Papa, what happened da momma?" Noticing something else, little Kaito wondered about the person who was supposed to be home hours ago. "Papa, where's Kazui~"
Toichi didn't pull away when he answered. His breath was shaky as he spoke. "We are... trying everything to find her, sweetheart," he was close to tears, but he had to stay strong. Strong for his wife and his son.
Little Kaito looked confused. "Find her? Is she lost?"
"No..."
"We have da find her because she's playing hide and seek!" Kaito cheered playfully, unaware of what his father meant.
Toichi regretfully shook his head. He wanted this all to be a nightmare, and wake up to find his daughter safe and sound in her cradle. "She isn't playing hide and seek... she's... missing..." he trailed off.
Kaito's eyes widened. "Has she been daken?" Toichi felt a shiver and twitch from his son as he began to cry. "She hasn't been daken by bad people has she? No..." his voice faded into cryful sobs. "Kazui..."
