"No" was my answer. "I can't join you guys. First of all, I haven't actually seen this organisation of yours. Not to mention, I am 17, I have to study, play, plan my future and such. So, I reckon I won't have the time. And I think not my parents will approve of me fighting dangerous people while my life hangs in the balance" He just smiled and said "I can show you the HQ on the condition that you will accept this proposal. As for planning your future, we also have a private school which you can study in. So it doesn't matter what time you arrive, we can host a class, just for you. The 3rd thing has always been a problem. But we can take care of it." "But how?" I asked. "Well you will just have to keep it a secret". Silence alone followed. I just couldn't decide what to do. On one hand I could become a literal ninja superhero or something but lie to my parents. On the other hand I could be truthful to my parents but miss out on such an opportunity. It was just so difficult. Even for me. I finally said......that I would tell him tomorrow. He agreed to meet at the same place tomorrow. Then we both went on our ways
Afterwards I played some soccer to clear my mind. Then I completed my assignments, consumed a generous dinner and went to bed. But I did not sleep. I thought about the step that I must take next.
I know not when my sleep got the better of me but even in the morning, I had no answer. Well, college was my next stop. In the recess I met up with my one of my two best friends-Kevin and Clover. Kevin was a genius, to say the least. A prodigy since birth, his intellect was at par with mine, surpassing even. Sports, however was his bane. Clover was...well Clover. She was a something of an athlete. She had been friends with Kevin before I ever knew them and stories that found their way to my ears say that at the time SHE protected Kevin from bullies. Nevertheless, if there was anyone who could rid me of my dilemma, it was Kevin.
"Dude" I said, attempting to engage in our familiar jargon.
He displayed his signature smirk, right side of his mouth curving more than the left. "Yeah?" "So, here's a moral dilemma, what would you do if you were faced with a priceless opportunity at the cost of honesty?"
"That's a rather arbitrary question, is it not?" "I guess. It's just that I've just been thinking solemnly about my future for some time now."
He nodded and thought for a while, looking down. Breaking the silence, he said "Well, I think that honesty is itself a lie. Never can we be completely honest, we have evolved that way. Social environment forces the act of lying to become quite frequent. Consequently, I think, lying loses its place as a taboo. One may recover from a lie. Lost opportunities however, leave a permanent mark. So, I think, if you ever are faced with such a situation, it would be nothing but unwise to let an opportunity slip away for something as fundamental as lying. Cause when we no longer remain, our stories do. Have yours be an epic."
"Cool" I said. Well I found his answer no less than compelling. So when I met up with my new elderly friend, I said "I graciously accept your offer" He just smiled and said "Tomorrow after college, come into this building immediately for your first training session". As he turned around to depart, I said "Will I ever get bored?"He stopped. "No" was his reply, simple and confident. I knew I had a lot to expect, at that very moment.
So I am really looking forward to tomorrow.
