With a whirring sound, the doors closed, saving my life. I looked at them, panting, supporting myself against the cold metal with my elbow, head placed on my arm. The silver was now tinged blue with the light from my eyes. Thoughts captured my mind. Melvin was superior to me, rivalling me in my intellect and exceedingly surpassing me in terms of physical abilities. However, I think that being inside the facility, I can beat him. Soon.
As expected, the other Protectors inside the building attempted to curb my actions. However, like with Clover and the man called General, I was able to freeze them.
In our previous clash, Melvin had exploited my broken hand and I needed time to heal before taking him on again. And I don't just intend to kill him, although I certainly wish to accomplish that. I need to destroy the Secret Protectors. Their inefficiency led to the death of millions around the world, implying that their power and technology are not deserved by them. And I have an irrefutable plan to do just that. For now, I need all the technology I can salvage. With that, I will escape and I will build it. I will build my weapon.
Having plenty of time to explore, I found the research laboratory. The level of technology was staggering. With these, no global problem would persist. And yet, it was beyond the reach of the greater part of mankind. I, however, needed to construct something specific for now. First, I used some tape and a shaft to support my broken arm. Now, what I needed was something that would help me get past Melvin and his companions without a fight. Something that would allow me to move too fast to be caught. I needed some sort of propulsion system. Rocket shoes in simple terms. Jet engines work by taking in air, combusting it, causing an explosion and pushing it out from the other side at high speeds. The reaction force is what pushes the vehicle forward. I just needed to miniaturise the same by using a more efficient fuel that takes up less space. Now, that is precisely what one needs to power a bus that can turn invisible by replicating the appearance of surroundings perpetually, all without making much noise. Hence, I conclude that such a fuel has already been synthesised here. The computers must have some sort of directory about where parts were, so, I went over to a computer that was already logged in. In not much time, I found what I was looking for. More, in fact. Technology that could interpret sketches, transform them into a into a 3-D model and then print it, was available. So, in about 10 minutes, my rocket shoes were done because I already knew all the specifications. Moreover, because of the 3-D printing, I could have whatever part I found necessary, tailored to perfection. I found a data storage device and downloaded all the information about their technology to use for my weapon. Pocketing it,I concluded that I was ready to escape.
Loading my new toy with fuel, I moved towards the only escape route. I was ready. In about 3 quarters of an hour, I had prepared myself enough to escape. I am certain that with my weapon, I can beat Melvin. I activated my device. With a little bit of noise, I was up in the air, defying gravity. It was extremely easy to control. Switching it off, I jumped back down. I went over to the button. I put my finger on it lightly. I took a deep breath...and the door opened.
"Damn, they called for back up" I thought as I saw what was an army of Protectors, about 40. However, with skilful flight, I should be able to escape unscathed. With a cry of courage, I began running through the tunnel. With equal zeal, came the Protectors towards me, probably expecting a fight. However, just before I reached a point where I would have to clash with them, I jumped and with a whooshing sound, took off. The ceiling was quite high, about 8 meters from the ground and I had plenty of vertical distance between my opponents and myself. All those present were just looking up at me, with awe and disappointment. I saw Melvin somewhere in the middle, infuriated and miserable. He had lost a second time today. His red glow was bright enough to shine on my face even though I was about 6 meters above him. I smiled at him quizzaciously and rocketed away. I arrived at the platform with the lever and flew straight up and out....
*********************************Author's Note: Quizzaciously is a highly unconventional word meaning 'in a mocking manner' Odds are, if you still refer to an old dictionary, you haven't come across it and I thought it was a necessity to provide the meaning.
