Maybe, Always? (Everlark Fanfic)

This isn't Your Fault: Chapter 6

He smiled at me as I walked through the door, instantaneously my whole body relaxed at the sight of his smile.

"Katniss." He breathed as I ran to him and he took my in his strong warm arms. 

"I missed you so much." I said my eyes filling with tears. 

"I know me too." He said, I could feel his tear drops on my back.

"Could you give us some time." I say looking at Effie and Haymitch with a smile.

"We'll be right outside the door."   Haymitch said as he returned the smile.

I sat on Peeta's bed just staring into his blue eyes taking it all in. 

"Are they like your parents or something?" He asked while he laughed.

"Yea kinda." I said sniffling and laughing too.
"I've been staying at there house since you've been gone." I say looking down.

"Katniss I'm sorr--" He starts but I cut him off.

"This isn't your fault." I say sudden anger rising up.
"Its mine I triggered you." I said the anger replacing itself with sadness.

"It will never be your fault." He says forcefully gazing up into my eyes. 

I lay down and bury my head in his chest knowing I need to tell him the news.

"Peeta I have to tell you something it's important." I start.

"Just wait Katniss I want to hold you for a little longer." He says as he tightens his arms around me.

We stay like this for a while until I find my self falling asleep in the warmth of his touch. I jolt up knowing I can't I have to tell him.

"Peeta," I say gently my eyes filling with tears.

He wipes the tears away as he sits up to stare into my eyes. 

"I'm pregnant." I whisper barely audible.

He looks stunned at my words. I look at him waiting for an answer. His blank stare suddenly turns to a smile. 

"The shower." He says and laughs.
"You're having a baby, real or not real?" He asks me with a smile.

"Real." I say  a smile forming on my lips.

"I'm going to be a father." He whispers to himself.
"I'm going to be a father!" He yells this time throwing his head back to laugh.

I laugh too, his reaction make me feel as if there is a wait off of my shoulders.

"But you have to get better." I pause to sniffle.  "Because I can't do this by myself, I need you." I say tears on the brink.

"I'm gonna be there Katniss. For it all. I'm going to work really hard so they let me out of this hell hole. I'm gonna be there." He says his eyes filing with tears as he looks into mine.

"Alright sweetheart times up." Haymitch says walking into the door.

I kissed Peeta and held onto him until Haymitch pulled me off.

"We have to go." He says gently pushing me out the door.

"Always!" I hear Peeta yell before the door closes behind us.

"Always." I whisper to myself.

I relied heavily on Haymitch as we walked to the train almost feeling as if I might pass out. I was nervous but yet so happy. My head was spinning with emotions and thoughts. I feel asleep on the train and was carefully shaken awake by Effie.

"We are home Katniss." She whispers and I stand up.

As we walk home my mind rumbles with questions for Effie and Haymitch.

"Did they tell you when Peeta will be out?" I ask softly scared of what the answer might be.

"It could be as short as a month or as long as a year." Haymitch starts. "All depends on how he is doing." He finishes and I take a deep breath.

In a year the baby will have already been born and started to grow. My heads spins at the thought of not having Peeta here to raise this baby.

"When will I be able to see him again?" I ask as we arrive to the door.

"2 weeks." Effie answers.

I smile at the though of seeing Peeta as I did today.
