"Hot chocolate!"
"Coming right up!" Carter called back and disappeared into another room, which I assumed was the kitchen. I flopped down on a springy couch facing the rectangle coffee table in the center of the room.

The neighborhood was sort of warm and homely. His house was just the right size with a cozy, suburban touch to it. The kind I'd lived in, growing up. His little sister seemed sweet in a way I couldn't describe. I know she's got a monstrous(?) appetite, but she's only a kid, so it doesn't matter all that much to me. I've always wanted a little sister, but I think I'd rather see them from a distance for now.

But look at me now; only ten minutes into my little visit and I let Tasha 'decorate' my face, with her little set of face paints. She asked me if I could draw whiskers on her face. Her face, when I was done, reminded me of that anime character, Naruto!
And then she offered to make me pretty by drawing on my face. I was a sucker for those big sweet puppy dog eyes she made.
"Carter never let's me have a go at his face!" She whined.
"So, what are you drawing on mine?" I gathered my hair at the nape of my neck so it wouldn't obstruct the tiny crayon gliding across my face.
"Oh_ you'll see..." I saw a little twinkle of mischief in her eyes- she was up to no good. Ah! what the heck?!
"I'll go get my mirror!" She chirped, skipping away.

"Oh! Look who took the bait!" Carter was back and I could imagine how horrible my face looked, judging the way he was laughing like a retard. I just made a face and let it go. He set a tray and a white coffee mug down on the table. The sweet smell of the hot cocoa left all my other senses numb. I just wanted to drink it all up. I held the cup to my mouth to take a long sip and I realized there were mini marshmallows floating about on top. Awww! How thoughtful!

"Really? You're gonna let it be?" He asked in between failed attempts of holding in his chuckles

"Really? You're gonna let it be?" He asked in between failed attempts of holding in his chuckles. Scratch that!
"Here ya go!" Tasha shoved a hand mirror in front of my face.
And that one thought crossed my mind_ Ugh! Is that me?
There was a red spiral on each of my cheeks and around my mouth; black paint coated the tip of my nose, thickly all over my eyebrows
I turned to Tasha, not knowing what to do or say. She examined my face for not more than three seconds and ran of squealing out of fear or whatever.
I turned to Carter who'd collapsed laughing on the black couch adjacent to mine, with his face buried in a silvery-cream colored throw pillow.
I drank up, ignoring the fact that my face was covered in cheap greasy paint. Instead I paid attention to the hot chocolate that filled my mouth with warm bittersweet chocolaty happiness. Really that's what it tasted like! I felt the fluid smoothness against my tongue as I drew in more. I felt the warmth and the richness as it ran down my throat.
Sadly, it lasted hardly five minutes and I was left staring down at the little dark brown ring the last few drops had left behind at the bottom of the cup, wondering if I would have been happier if I had enjoyed it slower_ much slower... I looked over to the tray on which there were chocolate chip cookies laid out neatly in rows. I took two and chomped them down together. Every bite melted in my mouth.... Pure bliss!

Carter decided to break the silence as I stuffed another cookie into my mouth, "Please, let me show you to the sink_ I can't bear laughing any longer

Carter decided to break the silence as I stuffed another cookie into my mouth, "Please, let me show you to the sink_ I can't bear laughing any longer." He clenched his stomach with both hands, probably out of chortling non stop for so long!

Squeezing a little soap into my palm, I re-examined my face on the mirror behind the wash basin.
I lathered it on my face and watched as the paint dissolved into the soap, making it fade away. Another splash of water and it was entirely off.
Hello again Fawn!

I made my way back to the living room where Carter was chugging away from a bottle. I did a double take as he lowered the bottle to the table.
He caught me staring, "What? Its a once in a while thing!" Once in a while?
"What is it?" I asked pointing my jaw to the bottle.
"What, this? Its root beer!"
"Oh!" I said. Ah! Memories_ bad ones.
"Never tried one?"
"No..." Okay_ I lied!
"You're darn weird, you know that. I can't frickin believe this! Where have you been living_ are you sure you're from Earth?"

I really wish I wasn't....
