I walked out into the hallway, hoping Megan grabbed an extra soda pop. She'd probably be out in the lawn or something_ that's where most of the freshmen spend their break. I'd probably even catch up with Owen there.
Or maybe even Bluebell....As I'd expected, I found her walking out of the cafeteria. She wasn't hard to miss. She's a tiny brunette with golden highlights in her hair and an uninterested expression on her face. Megan, Okiku, Owen and I have been friends since grade school. The thing is, three of us graduated from Glade High together and one was left behind to fend for herself.
That person was Megan.
Then she's been a little indifferent and well, she's always a little moody.
Once she'd climbed down the stairs out to the turf, she looked around, probably trying to decide where to go next and when she caught sight of me she walked in my direction. She smiled and pulled out two cans of coke, handing one to me and opening the other for herself.
"You're still as selfish, huh?" I asked, remembering how she hated to share her favorite fizzy when she was a freshman in Highschool. She realized it was easier to buy me a separate bottle because of that one time I ended up gulping down the entire bottle to see how she'd react. She threw a big tantrum and didn't talk to me the rest of the day. Girls are so messed up....Her smile faded and her eyebrows knit together. She jabbed my rib making the drink in my mouth go down the wrong pipe, "Shut the eff up. If I were you I'd say thank you! You ungrateful little_" she kicked my shin and proceeded to punching my shoulder. I was half coughing, half laughing, happy to see her back to her old self. I threw my hands up in surrender, "Okay! Okay_ thank you puh-rincess! And you must learn to take jokes more lightly!" To that she crossed her arms over her chest, turning away,"Humph!" She went all defiant.
This leaves me with just one option...
I scooped her up into my arms and shook her about as if she were a ragdoll, sending drops of cola flying through the air, "I'm so glad you're here Nutmeg!" She yelped a little as she fell free from my grip, "Haven't I told you I don't do hugs!!! And don't call me that!" She said as she pulled down at her jacket's hem, straightening it out and stroked her sleeves as if she was brushing dust off. In spite of her 'I-don't-give-an-ish' attitude Megan is a very fun person. Pulling her leg is the best part."So, how was your first day?" I asked her as I proceeded toward the fig tree. Meg trailed behind.
"Hmmm... It isn't as fun as I thought a uni would be! There aren't a lot of nice teachers either... I don't_"
"Hold that thought, who is that?" I asked pointing at our usual table. There was a dark haired girl at our table. It couldn't be Okiku, her break ended way earlier. Nobody ever sat there knowing Owen had sort of marked his territory right there.Maybe she was a freshman. Ah, now that makes sense.
We got to the table and the girl stood up. She started gathering up the things at the table hastily. I couldn't see her face because of the long black locks covering it. Long black hair. Like Bluebell's! I tilted my head a little, trying to see her face. A light wind blew, moving her hair out of the way_ it was her alright! She probably thought that we came here to tell her off or something.
Poor Blue!I put a hand on her shoulder and weirdly enough Meg did the same. Did she know her?
"Blue!"
"Fawn...", We both said at the same time.
"Blue?" She asked.
"Fawn?" I shot back. Meg gave me a look that conveyed that I've got the wrong person. It couldn't be! She has the same almond eyes and long dark hair and every other facial feature.
That's when Owen walked up from behind, "You guys saw a blue fawn? That's crazy! There is no such thing!" He said, probably just as confused as I am."I can explain Carter!" Blue blurted, turning to face me.
Fawn caught in headlights?••••••
