After Louis had exclaimed the name 'Smalls' the boy looked up at Louis. He smiled and finally released the grip he had on his caretakers leg. When he stood up, Louis could tell why his nickname was Smalls. The boy was quite petite for his age, and he looked more fragile than a porcelain China set.
Smalls stuck his hand out to Louis, which took Louis by surprise since he didn't expect the boy to even acknowledge his presence. His shy demeanor caused his hand to tremble terribly, and Louis was afraid that if he didn't take the boy's hand, it would've fallen off. As Louis shook the boy's hand, his thoughts became a distant, scattered puzzle all over again, and he couldn't quite remember what he was even doing. When he came back to reality, he quickly released the hand of the strange boy and scoffed.
"W-Who are you!"
The boy let out an almost inaudible whimper before shielding himself behind a blonde man. Before Louis could ask another question, he felt a firm grip on his shoulder.
"Louis." The voice was so gentle, so sweet, glazed over with honey. Louis titled his head to the side and smiled at the strangely familiar man. "You don't have to be so mean to Harry. Lou, he's your friend. Don't you remember?"
Louis scrunched up his eyebrows in confusion, and turned his attention back to the boy and the blonde. The man called the boy Harry, and so, Louis watched Harry curl up in a ball on the floor and watched the blonde try to calm Harry down.
"What's wrong with him," Louis whispered.
"He's alright," the blonde said, turning around to face Louis, "He just gets a bit worked up around others."
Louis watched as Harry gripped onto Niall's leg, chanting out the words don't leave me, don't leave me. And Louis felt as if this had happened before, and the gears in his mind were turning once more. When the name Smalls came to his attention, he was able to fit two pieces of the puzzle together and connect the boy's face to the name.
"Smalls!" Louis quickly kneeled down beside the crying boy and patted his head, "Don't cry, Smalls. Nially doesn't like it when you cry, remember? I don't like it either."
Louis looked up at Niall and then at Liam, "LiLi doesn't like it either. Come on Smalls, get up. I promise if you get up we'll eat Oreo's in my room!"
At the mention of Oreo's, Harry glanced up at Louis, and quickly stood up. Liam and Niall both smiled at the petite boy and patted Louis' shoulder.
"O-Oreos! Oreo's!" Harry chanted over and over again as he hugged Louis.
