"Oh my! You win again, Lou!"
Louis stared blankly at the board game in front of him. It was chess, and Louis was rubbish at chest, though he couldn't remember why. Yet for some reason, when he played with the brown eyed male, he seemed to be ten times better. This gave Louis a spark of something he's never felt before: confidence. The male continued to clap for Louis as Louis finished resetting the board for the umpteenth time.
"You're so good at chess, Lou," the male murmured in astonishment. "I'm...I'm really proud of you."
Louis' blank expression soon turned to one of annoyance. For some reason, even though the man playing with him continuously told Louis how wonderful he was at chess every round, Louis felt as though he was lying. This wavering feeling of doubt made Louis set one of the chess pieces down and bury his face into the palms of his hand.
Louis grumbled incoherently, that was until he felt firm hands gently pull his own hands off of his face. The bewildered look on Louis' face nearly matched the astounded look on the man's face.
"L..." Louis paused, the name of the man was at the tip of his tongue. He tightly shut his eyes and tried to connect the dots in his mind. The dots lead him to a place where every image in Louis' mind was moving at hyper speed; faces connecting with voices and objects they didn't belong too. Events that took place prior slowly being distorted into a void of nothingness. Suddenly, Louis let out a gasp, and dug his fingernails into his wrist, a sort of safety mechanism Louis developed to calm himself down.
"Breathe Lou, you know who I am...and if you've forgotten then that's okay." Louis slowly opened his eyes and stopped digging his fingers into his flesh. The man nodded in approval, "That's it Lou. How about this...how about I just tell you my name?"
Louis shook his head, "That's cheating, isn't it?"
"Not really," the man shook his head in amusement, "How about key words?"
Louis scrunched his eyebrows in confusion. The man simply laughed and looked up at the ceiling and then back at Louis.
"Cinnamon."
"What?"
"Hmm..." the man sighed. "I couldn't possibly put my finger on who nicknamed me cinnamon. I believe it was during the time of baking season, when a certain someone ended up spilling cinnamon all over the floor! What a mess that was to clean!" Liam added, throwing his arms in the air for exaggeration.
Louis giggled softly, "Not me! I'm..." Soon Louis' giggles were replaced with confusion. "Who am I?"
"You're Louis Tomlinson, a simple man who enjoys playing chess."
"He sounds quite boring. I mean this Louis guy, not me."
The man reached across the table to set a hand on Louis' shoulder, "You are Louis. You're my Lou and you're definitely not boring."
The name sounded familiar. The touch felt familiar. Everything was adding up in Louis' mind and he was beginning to get a clear picture of what was happening, what he had just been doing a few minutes ago along with the man, and more importantly, why he was doing it. The man cracked a small smile as Louis grunted, staring down at the chess board. Louis hated chess, but he played it anyway because he enjoyed being close to—
"Liam. Liam, that's not why I nicknamed you cinnamon!"
