Chapter 10

Stonepaw sat in the apprentice den. So bored! She thought. Featherpaw came trotting in with prey. He dropped what looked like a vole at her paws. It was too dark to see exactly what it was. Her nest was in the shadowed part of the apprentice den.

"Aw is little Stonekit still hurting?" He teased. Stonepaw rolled her eyes.

"Just you wait. When I'm back on my paw's I'll be ready to train!" Stonepaw raised her head proudly. Featherpaw nodded. Fangpaw came rushing over.

"Did you guys hear?!" She practically shouted her eyes wide. Stonepaw tilted her head.

"Brownpelt and Reedclaw joined DawnClan! Of all the clan's they have to join our biggest rivals!" Fangpaw growled the last part.

"You mean they're still apart of the clan's?!" Featherpaw asked. He sounded so hopeful.

"Yeah." Fangpaw said. "Jackalpaw was so excited when i told him. I guess he has a reason to be..."

"How do you feel about it Featherpaw?" Stonepaw asked.

"I feel so happy! I knew it! My parents couldn't stand to leave me and Jackalpaw!" Featherpaw hopped around. He stepped on nest's accidentally but he continued to hop. Stonepaw couldn't help but feel happy for him. Even though his parents disobeyed the warrior code they still loved their only litter. He bumped into Stonepaw. She fell onto her side. "oops...sorry Stonepaw" Featherpaw helped her up. Stonepaw stood up not noticing she could stand on her paw again.

"Hey! You can stand again!" Fangpaw said. Stonepaw looked at her paw.

"This is great! I can train now!" Stonepaw raced out of the apprentice den. Fawnstar was talking with Jadefang. The leader nodded and hopped onto the meeting tree.

"All cats old enough to hunt gather at the meeting tree to hear my words!" Fawnstar called. Everyone started to gather.

"What now?" Stonepaw heard an elder, Wingtip, groan. Stonepaw sat with Featherpaw close on her right and Fangpaw on her left.

"After the discover of Stonepaw's former mentor, Ferntail, expecting kits I have finally chosen a new mentor." Fawnstar said. Stonepaw felt like jumping for joy. Finally after a full moon! A new mentor! Now she could train for real! "Stonepaw's new mentor will be Jadefang!" Suddenly Stonepaw felt worried. Jadefang was a tough and respected warrior. But she was also a warrior that was distant and showed barely any emotion. Her presence made her shiver. Jadefang walked up to them.

"Hello my new apprentice." Jadefang said practically emotionless. Stonepaw nodded. "Nice to finally have a mentor again? Well, we'll start training tomorrow."

"Wait why?" Stonepaw asked.

"We'll be going on a patrol today." Jadefang replied. Stonepaw nodded. The sun was setting. The patrol went out into the forest.

The patrol arrived at camp at moonhigh. Featherpaw was basically the only cat up. Not mentioning the kits who were racing around the nursery. Stonepaw walked over to Featherpaw.

"Were you waiting for me?" Stonepaw teased. Featherpaw laughed nervously.

"I uh...just waited to tell you that uh...Fawnstar wanted you to go on the hunting patrol tomorrow." he said. Stonepaw nodded. She yawned and stretched.

"Well if that's all, I'm going to sleep." She said.

"Wait!" Featherpaw said. Stonepaw looked at him and tilted her head.

"I uh...I just wanted to say...I changed your bedding...I had extra moss from when I fixed the Elder's nest's. So yeah...Just letting you know..." Featherpaw looked at his paw's. Stonepaw felt that glimmer of affection for Featherpaw grow a bit stronger. She nodded.

"Thanks!" She said. She cuffed him friendly on the ear. Featherpaw laughed. She walked into the apprentice den and sat in her nest. The new moss felt comfortable. She yawned and fell asleep. She woke up to find herself staring at Harepaw.

"Hi Stonepaw! Good to see you!" He said excited. Stonepaw laughed.

"Hi Harepaw!" She said. "Where's Stormheart?" She asked looking around. Harepaw shrugged. Suddenly a faint outline of Stormheart appeared between them.

"Hello my apprentices..." The outline said in a voice so low it was almost to low to hear. "I am afraid I won't be able to train you two for a while...It's getting harder to come here because something is blocking my magic...so I bid you two farewell for now. But...you can still train together for now. Every few days... you two can come here to train...train hard until I can join you two...goodbye..." The outline said and disappeared. Stonepaw and Harepaw looked at each other.

"Well i guess now that we train each other we can catch up!" He said cheerfully.

"So all you want to do is talk today?" Stonepaw laughed. Harepaw nodded. They walked to a clearing.

"So how have you been? Anything exciting happen?" Harepaw asked.

"Well...Two of my clanmates got exiled, I stepped on a thorn yesterday, I got a new mentor taday and...my exiled Clanmates joined DawnClan." Stonepaw replied.

"Oh wow! That's a bunch of stuff!" harepaw said. Stonepaw shrugged. They talked the entire time they were in their training place. Stonepaw woke up. She walked out of the apprentice den. Jadefang sat at the camp entrance. Stonepaw walked over ready to train!
