“Stay by the car and don’t move” she instructed. The people nodded. She grabbed her gun out of the holster and ran toward the sound of the gunfire. Her co-worker had been shot down and was barely conscious. He had taken a heavy amount of gun fire. She moved him out of the way and stood where he was originally, looking at the group of rebels that had shot him down. “Removes your masks and give me your names. Make it snappy I don’t have all day!” she commanded. She instantly became defensive as one of them walked toward her. “Kasi?”
“Remove your masks and give me your names. Make it snappy I don’t have all day!” she snapped. Frank instantly removed his mask as he saw who it was and walked toward her slowly, watching her get defensive. “Kasi?” he asked gently. She stood up and frowned slightly. “It’s me. We met a few years ago, the same time the bombs fell. Do you remember?” She frowned, trying to remember and failed.
“I don’t know. I feel like I should but nothing is coming to me” she admitted. He nodded.
“Unseen go and hide somewhere out of earshot of us for a while. Go on patrol or something” Gerard suggested. She nodded.
“No need it’s only me out here now seeing as you killed my partner” Kasi glared. They watched Unseen leave quickly and quietly and waited a few minutes before starting to talk.
“I feel like I know you but I don’t know you” she said, almost panicking. Mikey sat next to her, putting his hand on her back gently. She flinched at his touch.
“Relax we wont hurt you. Other Dracs yes. You, not so much. Only if you hurt us first” he smiled softly.
“Kasi, my name is Frank. We met in 2015, I helped you escape from the bombs and we hid in a small shack. We then stayed together with these lunatics and ran and then you went missing. We couldn’t find you” he explained. She frowned, trying to remember. It was coming back to her in pieces.
Unaware of what the building was, she ran inside, not realising the cameras on the building had tripped a silent alarm and she was being hunted down.
She managed to hide herself in a small, what she thought, was a cupboard. She panicked when lights came on and a voice came out of no where. “What are you doing in this building?”
“I th-thought it was a-abandoned. I’m sorry I’ll leave” she stammered, trying to get out and failing. The door had locked behind her and now, she was freaking out. She didn’t know where she was, where her friends were or what was going on. She just wanted out.
“You can try and get out all you want. You are in Better Living Industries and you are now our prisoner. You will join the other subjects in our underground bunker while the bombs fall and the purifying flames take over. Welcome to Better Living and soon, you will be welcomed into Battery City that shall be your new home.”
Her eyes widened as everything came flooding back. That night at the hotel, the morning after when they got split up. “I thought you were dead!”
“And she remembers. Nope. I tried to rescue you but it was too dangerous. We didn’t know what they had done to you!”
“We’ve been living underground for the last few years. Now they have everything running, we’re coming out and we’re gonna destroy it. Who’s side are you on Kasi? Ours or theirs?” Gerard asked. She was stunned. She didn’t think anything bad of what BLI had been doing to people. Except for the bombings. She knew it was horrible. She suddenly had an idea.
“I have an idea. I can go under cover at base” she said. They looked at her. “It’s simple. I’ve been hired by SCARECROW to go out and ‘exterminate’ you guys and anyone associated with you. They don’t know I know you and the cameras in this sector haven’t even been activated yet. They wont be for another week. I do the patrols between zones 5,6 and 7. As far as they know, I’m currently on a normal patrol” she shrugged. Gerard had a thoughtful look on his face.
“You know? This might just work. Also, we have new names. Nicknames. I’m now Party Poison, Frank is Fun Ghoul, Ray is Jet Star and Mikey is Kobra Kid” he said. She nodded and repeated them.
They had the plan worked out. She would visit them briefly on her patrols and they would try to keep out of trouble. She stood up, just as her transmitter erupted with static. “Worst signal ever! This is Agent 2914-B go ahead… Got it I’ll be back within the hour… Yes sir everything has gone smoothly… Over and out. I need to head back time for a meeting and to eat I’m starving” she said. They nodded. She said goodbye and headed out to the car, but not before being chased down by Kobra.
“Wait. I found this” he said, holding up her necklace. She had completely forgotten about it. She took it from him and looked at it. “I’ve kept it in my pocket the whole time. It may sound stupid but it made me feel safe” he shrugged. She smiled.
“Doesn’t sound stupid. Mainly because this is a Guardian Angel. My mother made it for me when I left home so I would always be safe” she said, putting it back on and tucking it under her shirt. He smiled.
“Stay safe.”
“Don’t get into trouble. I don’t wanna have to be sent out here ‘cause you guys can’t do as your told” she said sternly. It would make her look bad and it would probably reveal their plan too.
She walked back to the car, dragging her partner’s corpse with her and radioing into base. “It’s Agent 2914-B here. My partner has been killed in a shoot out with the criminals. I couldn’t apprehend them as I have taken shots myself. Shall be back shortly have a medical team on hand” she down it. She clipped it back to her belt and then starting shooting at herself, making it appear she was in a dangerous shoot out with dangerous criminals.
The 4 men watched her from the Diner. They flinched as the gun fired but they knew what she was doing. After all, it had to appear real. Kobra walked back in quietly. “Everything okay?”
“I gave her the necklace back. About time it went back home” he said. Poison smiled.
“You really do care about her don’t you?”
“Don’t start. I care about her in a friendly way. Not in the ‘I wanna get into her pants’ kinda way” he said. Poison grinned. Frank actually smiled properly.
“There’s something special about her. I don’t know what but something” he said. He then sat back and pulled his small sketchbook out and started drawing again. He felt at peace knowing she was okay but at the same time, seeing her with the black hair, he felt like he had seen her somewhere else before.
