I grabbed my bag from the sand and slipped on my gold sandals, was I really going home with Luke? I'd never done anything like this before, Steve and Laura cared about me, they were practically my family, but Luke was everything to me. "Fuck it." I said, "fuck everything, I'm staying at yours." I smiled at Luke, swinging my bag as I walked along the sand. Luke smiled instantly and filled the gaps between my fingers with his. "Fancy a lift?" He laughed and pulled his car keys from his jeans pocket. I nodded and squeezed his hand gently, he squeezed mine back and began running, dragging me with him. "I can't wait to get you home." He bit his lip ring and stopped suddenly, caressing my body with his hands.
My stomach tied in knots as his beautiful, tanned face came into view, I felt giddy and nervous around him. Is this what love feels like? I thought to myself and smiled as Luke's twinkling, brown eyes opened and closed whilst he tried to blink the sand away. His eyelashes were long and full, making his eyes stand out even more and I wiped a tiny amount of cream, that had managed to stay stick to him, off his face gently. The cute freckle at the top of his nose suddenly appeared and he wrinkled up his nose, "you're worse than my mum." He complained and swept his hair to the side. He jumped up the wall at the back of the beach and held his hand out to aid me, I pulled myself up, eventually, and Luke kissed my forehead gently.
We passed the back entrance to the smoothie bar, turned the corner to the car park and headed towards Beau's car. "I'm surprised Beau allowed you to steal 'the pussy wagon.'" I laughed as I said the ridiculous name Beau had given his car. "He doesn't actually know." Admitted Luke and opened up the passenger door for me to climb in. "Ma'lady." He giggled, as I got into the car, he shut the door after me and I fastened my seatbelt. Luke got in the drivers side and did the same, he started the car and I sunk down into the seat, making myself comfortable. Before Luke began driving, he quickly leaned over and pecked me on the cheek, the feel of his soft lips lingered for a while and it felt somewhat strange.
It wasn't a bad kind of strange, but he was Luke, my best friend that I'd been in love with for two years, I knew everything about him, yet I was a complete stranger to him, which he was unaware of. It felt strange that he could kiss me whenever he felt like it without it being awkward, I was hopelessly in love with him and maybe I could eventually be happy. "Saskia!" Luke yelled snapping me out of my daydream. "Sorry, I was in a world of my own." I laughed, and turned the radio station over, Nirvana - Polly started playing and Luke sang along proudly. I saw the spot he usually picked me up from and guilt flooded through me, I knew I should get out now and go to the care home, but this was Luke and things were finally looking up for me.
We passed the old church where I worked with Laura, every Christmas since I was six, collecting food and blankets for the homeless. Nirvana had finished and Def Leopard - Pour some Sugar on me played instead. This I time I joined Luke in singing along and he smiled, ear to ear. "I missed you Sass." He yelled over the music, he was so sweet, "we only stopped taking for a day." I laughed, but honestly, I'd missed him too. Soon he pulled up at his drive way and stopped the car, "after you." He beamed, opening up the front door and I was greeted by an overexcited Lala. "Hey baby." I cooed and rubbed her belly, Gina walked through and hugged me tightly, "Oh my gosh Luke, what happened!" She laughed at the state his clothes were in and Luke explained the machine malfunction at work earlier, "both of you, give me your clothes and I'll wash them for tomorrow." She smiled as we handed our clothes over to her.
Luke ran upstairs, naked, using his hands to cover his dignity and Gina muttered something about him being an idiot and we both laughed. "It's great to see you Saskia, I'm so glad you're staying, I need some sanity in my life." She laughed and poured us both a glass of rosé wine. Luke reappeared in a pair of grey, cotton shorts and a blue singlet, looking as gorgeous as ever. I excused myself to use the bathroom and overheard Luke and Gina taking on my way back, "Luke, she's perfect for you. Why don't you date her?" I heard Luke sigh, as if he'd heard this question a hundred times. "Mum stop." He laughed, the same laugh he had when I tickled him. I smiled slightly at the thought that Gina wanted me to be with her middle son and was soon met by Luke in the hallway. "NIGHT MUM!" Called Luke as he grabbed my waist and pulled my body close to his, he pinned me to the wall and began kissing my neck softly, "NIGHT GINA!" I called after him and took him by the wrist, slipping into his bedroom silently.
