"I can't go any faster Luke!" Beau yelled, we'd hit the morning traffic on our way to Melbourne hospital and there was no way out. I hit the dashboard in frustrating, making Beau even angrier and getting myself riled up. "Fuck, if you do that one more time you can walk cunt!" Beau yelled once more and turned his head to stare at a group of girls passing. He'd wound me up most of the journey, acting as of nothing serious had happened, acting as if it was a normal day. "Who are you calling a cunt?" I shouted back him, I'd had enough of him, of everyone when the only person I wanted was laying in a hospital bed, for reasons I didn't even know. "You!" He replied, "I can't go anywhere, I can't get you there any fucking quicker Luke!" He carried on, now with his full attention on me.
The car had been stopped in the same position for ten minutes now and I was agitated, "fuck you Beau!" I finished the argument, unclipped my seat belt and opened the car door, "Luke I was kidding about you getting out, don't be an idiot!" Beau said as I climbed out of the seat, but I ignored him, slamming the car door behind me and walking in front of the car, to the path on Beau's side. "Luke!" Beau shouted out of his window, but I blocked him out and carried on walking towards the hospital, it would take about an hour to walk, but it would still be quicker than being in the car with a complete arsehole. The whole street was jammed packed with cars, lorries and motorcycles, each of them beeping their horns at once, making my head pound.
My feet ached already and the sun beat down on me, making me sweat, I instantly regretted leaving the car. I'd look like more of an idiot if I turned back now, it would give Beau something else to annoy me about and it would take ten times longer, so I had no choice but to continue walking. I stopped at a small shop, gasping for some water, but tripped over as I entered, making an even bigger fool of myself. I played it off casually and headed towards the fridge to get a cold bottle of water, before spitting the slurpee machine in the corner. I swiftly placed the bottle of water back and headed towards the large cups, pouring the icy, blue mixture in. A couple of older women were gossiping in the corner and I could just hear the end of their conversation.
"There were police and ambulances all over the place this morning!" One of them said, interested in what had happened, I carried oh listening, "some say it was from the clover children's care home in Glenroy." The other one gossiped back, I'd been past the care home a few times, but never really payed much attention to it. Most of the kids that lived their were weird, they came to the park occasionally, Saskia and I would always make fun of them and leave when they arrived. My hand began freezing up and I noticed is poured a little too much mixture in the cup and it was now flowing out into my skin. "Shit." I mumbled and shook it off my hand, Into the bin, one of the ladies tutted as she walked past, the other muttered, "you should mind your language, young man." In a stern voice as they both left the shop. I ignored the two of them and paid for my drink, walking back out into the blistering heat.
The traffic had started moving slowly, however car horns were still beeping and a few angry drivers were yelling at each other. I took a sip of my slurpee, suddenly feeling cooler and refreshed. I took a left down the next street, hoping I was going in the direction, and continued to walk beside the slow moving traffic. "Get in the car faggot!" I heard Beau's voice from behind me, brilliant. He stopped the car, the other cars behind him shouting and beeping their horns more rapidly, as Beau held them up even more. I have up trying to avoid him, I was boiling and needed the air conditioning back, so I did as I was told. It wasn't for Beau, it was for me and the annoyed traffic he was holding up behind him.
"Give me a sip?" Beau said looking as my slurpee, I could almost see heart shapes in his pupils as he eyes it up. "No way dick head!" I pulled it out of view and carried on sucking at the straw. "I just saved your tired arse!" Beau said grumpily, I guess he did have a point, so I handed it over to him. The traffic had decreased now and we were actually moving at a normal pace, only two miles to go and I was beginning to get nervous. What if Saskia didn't want to see me? What if she took one look at me and told me to leave? That was my worst fear, that the one person I cared about as much as I cared about my family, didn't want me in their life anymore. Beau drove into the parking complex and stopped the car, "you okay?" He asked, sensing the worry I had. I nodded my head and took a deep breath, time to bite the bullet, time to face what could be the worst situation I have ever been in.
