29.
"Are you okay?" Mum asked me, I'd been in a daze ever since she had told me, just staring into clear spaces and not responding to anything. We exited the elevator and I nodded, I wasn't okay, I was shocked but i didn't know what to say. I didn't really know how to feel, it was as if everything I'd ever known was a lie and I guess I could have handled it worse, I just didn't think it had really sunk in. As we walked along the corridor I went straight to the window, "Luke.." Jai began speaking but it was too late, I'd already seen Saskia awake, sitting up in bed talking to Steve, Charlie and Anna. She still looked perfectly beautiful, her messy blonde hair cascading her shoulders and her pink lips shone in the light as she spoke.
"We can't see her yet, family only." Jai continued. Family? They were as much her family as I was. "Do you know?" I asked Jai, he bowed his head, that was as much as I needed to know. "You told him, before me?" I said to my mum, I felt my blood boiling as her face dropped, just as Jai's had. "I had to go to the care home before the hospital, jai was with me." She whispered, Jai had known the minute I had got there, he knew everything, I was certain he knew exactly why Saskia was here as well. Beau kept quiet, "and you?" I spat at him, he looked up and rubbed his forehead. "Brilliant, Luke's always the last to fucking know right?" They all stayed silent, not sure what to say.
I looked through the window, hoping Saskia would see me, praying that she would look over to the window, but she didn't. She leaned over and hugged Anna, who jumped up on the bed and sat beside Sass, I was instantly jealous. Jealous that I couldn't hold her, that I could tell her how I felt about her, but I guess in the end, that was my own fault. I looked at my phone, We'd already been here two hours, I had to leave in a few minutes, with no way of telling Saskia I was there for her and that I'd be back. "Luke, do you want me to take you to work?" Beau asked, watching me continually checking the time. "Jai and I will stay here, see if anything changes, we'll let you know as soon as she's allowed other visitors?" Mum chipped in, I just nodded and looked at Saskia one last time before walking away, back down the corridor.

"See you in a few hours, I'll pick you up." Beau called to me as I left the car. I waved my hand, as if to say whatever, and opened the smoothie bar door. Time for three hours of hell whilst I waited to find out if I could see Saskia or not. "Hey!" Called Kyla, I mumbled something back and headed straight towards the back room. I checked my phone, I'd only been gone half and hour so wasn't surprised that no one had any news. I quickly changed my shirt and made my way back to the counter, "sorry I didn't mean to be rude, I'm just not in a very good mood." I apologised to Kyla and placed my cap on my head. She smiled and removed her hat, ready to finish her shift. "It's okay, I understand, we're all worried. Are you seeing her later?" She asked, heading towards the back room. I nodded and screwed my face up slightly, making sure I didn't cry.
Saskia was the only girl to ever make me cry, ever make me jealous, to ever make me fall in love. She just had something about her. I'd been with other girls, one night stands, week long flings, but she was always in the back of my mind, Saskia was always what I wanted. The thought of her smiling in that bed, talking and sitting up kept me going through my shift, knowing that it would soon be me in Steve's place, holding her hand and making her smile. "Luke, bro, switch the sign over!" Ben called from the counter as I cleared glasses and plates from the last table. I thanked the woman and her son as they exited the bar and I locked the front door, turning the open sign around to closed. "Half an hour!" Ben shouted loudly, turning up the radio and drying up. Half an hour and I'd be on my way back to the hospital.
I cashed up the till and went into the back room to drop it into the safe, I pulled out my phone hoping for some news but still nothing. I phoned Jai, no answer, Beau, no answer and finally mum, no answer. I began getting frustrated and decided to take a risk, I'd text Saskia.
To sass x
I'm sorry for everything we've been through, I love you Saskia, I just want you to be mine, properly, for us to be together. I promise when you're out of that hospital, I'll do whatever it takes. I love you, always. x
I didn't expect a reply, I didn't even know if she had her phone with her, but it was worth a try. Half an hour soon passed, Ben and I left the bar, "send her my love bro!" He smile as he got into his girlfriends car. I lifted my thumb up to him, to let him know I'd heard him and so he knew I would. I made my way to the front of the store, spotting Beau's car straight away, Beau, Jai and mum were sat there, "we're going back to the hospital right?" I asked and Beau started the car without anyone saying a word.
