"What is that smell?!" I gagged. The extravagant scent of rotting...flesh, maybe? No,no, that would be bizzare.

"I dunno, but, hey! Look at that little pond up there!"

Just ahead of us was a puddle, just big enough to be a pond.

"Oh cool!" We bounded up to the pondle(Puddle/Pond).  My eyes glazed over the area stopping on a bundle of fur, Instantly throwing my arm up so Grace couldn't go any further.

"What the heck?!" Grace exclaimed.

"Look, there" I said pointing to the creature.

" Well, that would explain the smell..." Grace choked.

"We have to turn it over" She continued.

"Are you crazy?! The smell is enough to almost kill me!" I denied.

"Come on let's at least find out what it is!" Grace tried.

"Okay fine!" I gave in.

I found a stick as did Grace and we turned it over.

"Oh gosh, where are it's eyes?" I asked.

"Ick I dunno" Grace responded.

"I think it's a raccoon" I suggested.

"No, it's head is way too small, it could be a fox...?" Grace pondered

"but look at it's tail, it's striped"

"Oh! A badger! I'm pretty sure that's what it is" I clarified.

I had a bad feeling about going any further and I was so nervous that if a leaf dropped I would've probably attacked it.

"Hey, look over there! Is that a bucket?"Grace said, pointing to across the lake. I followed her finger to a plastic bucket floating in a tangle of sticks.

"There might be something cool in it, we should check it out" She said.

"It's probably just full of trash, plus I'm not very keen on dying today" I remarked, rubbing  my ring.

We kept going, ignoring my instinct.
