There was tension throughout the entire night. Blank stares, evil stares, and silent drama fluttering in the wind. It blew through our hair and into our ears and mouths. With each step we took more and more of it built up, people wanting to yell because of the situation we are in, some wanting to choke me because of it, jealousy, and just being plain old ready to give up.

We've been walking for about 4 hours now and have only gone about a good stretch of about 12 miles. We were tired and ready to fall to our knees and beg for forgiveness when we began to approach a green sign. It was different than just the regular mile markers we had been passing because it was a lot bigger, and that could only mean one thing...an exit.

Who knew a sign could bring so much meaning and glory to a human beings life. All of a sudden none of us were tired anymore when we could finally read the sign. It was so shiny and clean, fresh for our beaten, dried out eyes to rejuvenate on. My eyes focused on the white words that stretched across the front.

EXIT 205

Garden-dale

Following the glorious sign was a few more signs after telling which hotels were there, which types of food places there were, and specific gas stations. Ever since we passed the sign showing food, my mouth has been water for Sonic.

I haven't had Sonic in a long time, you might as well say the last time I had it, I was well under the age of six years old. I always used to wonder which came first ..Sonic the Hedge Hog or sonic the restaurant. I would ask my mom but she never gave me a reply.

My sister finally opened her mouth to break the dreadful silence. Her air was frizzed up on every strand because of the humid air. Her face was covered in sweat and smoke like the rest of us.

"Should we get off here?" She knew the answer to the question.

"Yes." Cameron opened his mouth to speak but Greg was faster.

"Good. We should get a hotel because we are all stressed and we can come up with a game plan from there." Cheyenne added.

"Get a hotel? You mean walk in there with burnt clothes and big bags and get a hotel?" I don't think so, we'll look to suspicious." Everyone's neck cracked in my direction at the sound of my sarcasm.

Everyone knew I had ideas in my head that were up to no good and they weren't looking too supportive of it. I felt the need to have more fun. It's already been half a week and I have another week and a half to live it up. I sure wasn't going to rest in a hotel until I had some more fun.

"Brian, no we are all tired." Cameron said sternly.

"Last time I checked you weren't my dad." I rolled my eyes at him from the back, "I have a week and a half left to live! It's not like I'm going to matter to any of you after I'm gone! So all of you can go to a hotel and sleep while I continue." I instantly regretted every single word that escaped my mouth.

My sister turned around with tears in her eyes, "You only care about yourself don't you!? I mean this not only hard on you, you fucking bitch! Sometimes I, I just don't know what to do with myself because I don't know how the world can revolve without you here!"

My sister came at me to push me, but Greg grabbed her before she could. She was kicked and cry through the air as he hoisted her in the other direction. He was trying to calm her down while holding her.

"You should definitely be ashamed of yourself."

It had reached total silence when Cameron made his way back up to the front. This made me think about my mother, and how much pain she must be in right now. Knowing she let her son go before he died, and that would be the last time she'd see him. There nothing I want more right now than to run in her arms and have her tell me it'll be okay. All the memories we made together will soon fade and be in the back of her head, then i'll soon become a thought instead of reality.
