Next Day..
"Are you boys ready?"
"We don't think so..." And I couldn't help myself from laughing. But stopped instantly when I saw the scowling faces of the group.
I whispered a decent sorry and took a seat beside Miss Johnson. Waiting for this new round of audition to take place, which included Smith and his troublemakers.
"Ok Nathan, you come first." Jennifer, a co-club member passed him the sheet with the dialogues written over it and passed the same one to the others, standing in the queue.
"Go on.." Miss Johnson encouraged Nathan to narrate the lines first and then act. But he just kept on looking at the paper in his hands like it was some manuscript in a different language. Just great!
I looked around and my eyes landed on the boy, sitting idly among the kids trying to shush them down. A smile made its way on my lips and I shook my head and went back looking at Nathan's in acting progress.
"Nathan! Are you going to speak up or not?" Miss Johnson stood up and went near him, giving him her famous scowling face.
"Mmm..I'm saying. Give me two minutes ma'am." Nathan passed Smith a 'safe me look' and messed up his hair, running his hands over them again and again. I looked at Smith who had his own sheet in his hands and was rehearsing the dialogues from it.
"Enough of your drama, Nathan. Step back. Smith are you ready to do it." Smith seem unexpected to be called out so suddenly and looked at Miss Johnson hesitantly.
"I will try.." He came forward and took the position, amidst the stage.
"Good luck!" I shouted and smiled at him, encouraging him to try and not be scared. And he replied me with a timid smile of his own. It's so funny. To look at this group of bad boys acting all fearful and uncomfortable of acting on the stage.
Who could have guessed, that these guys have stage fear. Well..I know it now. And I am surely going to use it against Smith.
The class silenced as soon as Smith began speaking and I eagerly waited to watch him act finally. "Perhaps.." He looked at us and I encouraged him to go on. He took a deep breath and began again.
"Perhaps, after all, romance...did not come into one's life with pomp and blare, like a gay..." He stopped at this, and his friends started laughing out loud at him and I looked at them angrily. They are really disappointing creatures.
Don't they see it, he is actually trying.
Not like them, wanting an easy way out. I felt so proud when Smith tried again, and bad for him when he couldn't act without looking at the paper.
He was still trying, when I heard someone whispering the dialogues. And I was just going to turn around to find who is that person, when Miss Johnson abruptly stopped Smith.
"Acting is surely not one of your talents, Dickinson." Miss Johnson looked disappointed and looked around the room to call the next in line.
She was just going to shout for the next boy, when Jennifer interrupted her and whispered something in her ears. What are they talking about?
