"Let me out!" I cried. "I'm so tired!! And sweaty!!"
I felt so hot. I could barely breathe. Luke was huddled up in a corner, wheezing and sweating. I looked at the guards. Uh oh. I thought. These are the guards that work for Dad. I'm busted.
"Kaelin, you need to come back home." the guards told me.
"NO!" I said. "I can't! Plus man, it's better here! And don't call me that! You've known for years that I prefer to be called Snake!"
"Snake..." one of the guards told me, "...please. You don't need to run away. We-"
Suddenly I said, "Look, man. I don't want to be a princess! And no one ever listens!"
"We could...listen." the guards told me.
"Like you want to listen to my thoughts!" I said. "You guys just run around all day!"
"Well, that's true." a guard said. "We just said that so you could feel better."
All the guards looked at him. Then I remembered the guard's name: James. He always tells everyone the darkest secrets. It's just retarded! And no matter how many times you tell him not to tell, he goes and brings it to the big guys.
"James!" a guard said. "Don't do that!! Oh my god..."
James turned red. He always had us getting onto him for something. Whether it was telling the biggest secrets or spilling punch all over someone's dress. Either way I screamed. The door had landed in the lobby again.
When we got out Luke said, "You and Jesse can stay at my house. I have a guest room."
I looked at Jesse. The poor girl had only half of her tail now since one of the guards might've accidentally cut her.
"Poor girl!" I said. "Oh, and thanks, Luke. I guess I'll stay for a little while. I mean this crap might stay this way for a while."
When we got to Luke's house, I laid Jesse down by the fireplace. The blood on her tail was drying up. I said, "So...where do I stay?"
"Oh yeah!" Luke said. "Come follow me..."
I followed him. There was a room upstairs. It had a small bed with black walls. It also had a big closet with all these red ruffles.
"Don't go in there..." Luke said.
"Um...why?" I asked.
"Gold." Luke said.
"Look, since you need that, whatever." I said. "But anything I can wear?"
"Oh, yeah sure!" Luke said. "Here..."
He handed me some ripped blue jeans and a Black Veiled Brides t-shirt. I went in the bathroom and put it on.
"Nice..." Luke said. "You must be worn out. Take a nap."
I crawled into bed while he went downstairs. I fell asleep with a small smile on my face. This is what real freedom felt like.
