Dandy pressed his finger tips up against his temples and let out a long, defeated sigh.
"I'm sorry Diana," I watched as he heaved himself up off of the floor. I expected more screaming and shouting but that was it. He was finished. "I didn't mean to insult you." Guilt washed across his face and that was an emotion I had never seen Dandy possess.I nodded once and looked at him, sweetly. "It's fine, dandy. Don't worry." He smiled, fondly, and walked over to me. I flinched as he gently touched my forehead.
"W-what happened back there?" I winced.
"That barbaric lobster boy hit you on the head with a bottle!" He rolled his eyes. "I came to save you and then we came back here. You were out cold for a long time!"I nodded and reached for my glass of water, sipping on it slowly. I don't think Dandy was telling me the whole story - I could have sworn I heard a gun shot. I shuddered.
What if he had shot Jimmy...?
My eyes stung with tears and I blinked them away quickly. These past few weeks I've become the biggest crybaby ever, what would mother think of me? Suddenly, I couldn't stop my tears as they started to flood from my eyes.
"Diana?" Dandy said concerned, placing a hand on my knee. "Are you alright? You're crying!" I let out a dry laugh and wiped them away with the back of my hand.
"I was just thinking of my mother that's all," I managed to choke out.
"What happened to her .... if you don't mind me asking?" Dandy asked. I didn't think he would be interested. I let out a sigh."No no, it's fine," I put my hand in my lap. "Growing up, my mother was always there. My father too, until I was about 4, he got tired of the staring and the way people called him, 'the freaks father' – so he left... It was just me and my mother against the world. Until she died when I was 14. I was left alone, living in a messy apartment – my only friend was a girl called Lucinda. She took care of me for a while. But now I'm here, living at the freakshow-" I blushed because I realised that I was rambling.
Dandy didn't seem to notice "That must have been terrible," he said, taking my small hand into his own. And then we sat in silence. Not saying any more. The quiet was comforting and I liked that because I had never told anybody else about my past before and Dandys reaction made me feel... nice.
And now, slowly, but very surely, I started to realise I was falling in love with Dandy Mott.
and I hated myself for it.
