Chapter 10: The Prophecy
"Are you guys outcasts too?" The thing asked his bow and arrow stilled aimed right at my face. "Wait a minute you guys aren't Shae at all you're Nau and- and . . . a Power and a Partial together. You don't see that everyday . . ." He set his bow and arrow down.
"I'm Duke and this is Lilith." I paused. Could we trust this guy? "We mean you no harm. We are technically outcasts too."
The guy hopped down from the tower he was hiding in. He smiled. "I'm Pierce, Pierce of Aeden." He beamed proudly then looked at Lilith. "Your stupid great-whatever failed to kill me. Ha! I was one of the best soldiers of my day." His black hair was wild and tangled. His wings were fluttered and disturbed, but unlike the Water Shae he had no webbed fingers or toes. Instead he had scales that covered his skin from head to toe. "That means I'm better than you stupid Powers."
Lilith snarled. I stepped up to brake them apart. "Calm down you two. It's fine Lilith isn't like her ancestors she's different."
Pierce laughed a long obnoxious laugh. "Ha! You stupid, foolish Partial. A Power can never truly change. A Power is always a Power somewhere deep inside. No matter what they're stupid, ugly face says different to you."
"Alright! Stop! That's enough!" I yelled and turned to Pierce. "I get that you have some serious problems with Powers, but that's no reason to hold a grudge. We won't even be here for long. We're continuing on our way right now. Right Lilith?"
Lilith still shaken over who-knows-what put on a fake smile. "Oh, yeah. Right. We'll be getting going now. Thanks for all you've done though." Lilith and I started walking away at a brisk pace, but then Pierce came up in front of us and blocked our path.
"I don't think so. I mean come on how often do you come across a Power and a Partial without even trying, but you know . . . lucky me! You'll of course excuse me for killing you both." Then he aimed that stupid bow and arrow at Lilith. "I think I''l kill you first you disgusting Power. The first is the worst right?" Then he laughed at his own stupid joke.
"No!" I screamed. It was that overwhelming force again. The one that made me kill Kralchon and almost kill Lilith.
Pierce laughed. "What are you, a stupid Partial going to do about it?"
"I'll- I'll shoot you if you don't leave right now I swear I'll shoot you." I stammered and held my bow and arrow up to Pierce. I had never actually shot the thing before, but it couldn't be that hard. Right?
I shot the arrow. It did this pathetic little dance in the air. Then landed on the ground. I looked to see where it landed. It hadn't even gone a foot.
Pierce laughed. "You stupid Partial. You can't even shoot a bow and arrow. I think it'll hurt you more to see your poor, beloved Lilith die than have you die yourself."
"Would you just die yourself. You stupid, idiotic Shae!" I unsheathed my sword and poked his stomach with the tip of it. "Say one more word and I won't hesitate to have this go through your stomach and to see you crumple on the floor. I'll laugh as you bleed to death begging for my help."
"Nice try Partial. Quite a show too. It's rare that you actually see a Partial being brave. I almost feel bad that I'm going to kill this rare species of a brave Partial, but whatever."
He unsheathed his sword, that I hadn't even noticed was there and he stuck it right into my gut. I fell over, paralyzed. I was choking on my own blood. I couldn't say a word. This was it. I would die here on this forgotten road, in this forgotten, cursed town. I would die here a failure. I was just like my father. I was a Partial. A failure. Just like everyone said. There was no denying your family past. It was there like it or not. You would end up just like everyone else in your family. You would end up a failure, or an insane murderer, or just a nobody. In this world there was nothing you could do to change that.
