Chapter 12: Necromancers
Lilith smirked. "It's been a long time, Racayanne and you haven't changed a bit."
Racayanne laughed. "You have that kind of power when you're immortal. You can look the same for 300 years or totally change your age overnight, but I know you didn't come here to let me brag about my immortality."
"You're right as always, Racayanne, I didn't come here for that reason."
"I like your reason for coming here, Lilith Power. It's quite entertaining."
"Well, could you do it?"
"I'm not sure, I've never tried to do it on a human before."
"You could do it, you're the necromancer of The Mountains, the most powerful one I hear."
"False flattery, isn''t going to make your wish come true, little one."
"Do you think you could make Duke one too?"
"A Partial, a necromancer, in your dreams!" Racayanne laughed, long and loud, my mouth dropped, that's why we were here?
"What the hell Lilith? You want to become a necromancer?"
Lilith shrugged. "I've been thinking about it." Racayanne smirked. "Ah, the life of mortal humans, so amusing! Shall we stop all standing round awkwardly and head inside?"
He led us into the cave without another word. My mouth dropped open in shock as I saw what was in the cave.
Red and black were the colors only colors in the room. Red and black curtains draped over mysterious lumps under red and black tables. Potions sat brewing. Rubies and other miscellaneous jewels grew dust in lumps, but probably the most shocking thing of all was the fact that three 'things' sat in the corner of the room.
Racayanne noticed me staring at them and smirked. "I see you noticed my little friends, Dukey. They are the last warlocks of this world, Mortas, Agnes, and Lexxis."
I knew nothing of warlocks or necromancers for starters, but I could tell that Racayanne had these poor creatures under some sort of spell. They sat in a corner fidgeting uncontrollably, their mouths twisted back and forth, like they were trying to say something, but couldn't. Their eyes told stories of abuse and horror. They screeched silently to my soul, begging for help. Their eyes threw invisible daggers at my heart. Iw anted to help them, but I couldn't, I was, after all just a Partial.
All the things I could have said in that moment just didn't seem to want to come out of my mouth, so instead I just said one word, "Dukey?"
"Ah, yes, do you like it?" His smile sent a shiver down my spine. I gulped and slowly backed away, but I couldn't. His smile held me frozen in time. Everything else stopped. "Don't be scared of me, Dukey. I'll make you regret it."
I suddenly fell backwards and knocked into a table filled with potions. Liquids splashed onto my back and I suddenly felt a burning sensation all over my body.
Lilith gasped. "Duke, Duke, are you alright?" Her chocolate brown eyes poured into mine.
"I-I think I am . . ." I said, trying to stand up, but I collapsed right back onto the floor. My whole body felt like little needles were poking into each and everyone of my nerves. My vision faded, my eyes closed and suddenly life didn't hurt so much anymore.
"He should be fine in a little while." I thought I heard Racayanne say. I didn't know how long I had been out. It felt like hours. "Stupid thing, he had to fall right into the paroxysm potion. I think there might have also been some agony and affliction potions mixed in there too."
"Will he live?" Lilith asked anxiousness seeping in here voice.
I sensed Racayanne shrug. "Most likely."
Lilith gasped. "Most likely! I thought you said he would be alright in a few hours!"
"He should be."
I slowly sat up. My whole body felt numb. My vision was blurry. "What . . . happened?"
"Oh My Alembria! Duke you're alright!" Lilith rushed right over to me and enwrapped me in a hug. She didn't let go.
"As much as your little human hug is adorable, it personally makes me gag. I understand, Lilith that this Partial is important to you, but to me however it is not. I understand your request to be a necromancer, but I'm sorry Lilith a mortal human can just not undergo the transformation. "
Lilith let go of me quick, startled. "But-but Racayanne, I'm not- I'm not mortal! I'm a Power! I have powers, I'm practically immortal!" "Practically immortal, is not immortal enough, I'm afraid. You know humans, even extraordinary humans, can just not become something as advanced as a necromancer. Humans are the lowest of the low. The only species that can even come close to what I am are warlocks. I'm sure you've noticed them sitting over there. While undergoing the transformation, which takes several weeks, they are paralyzed. Humans would simply just die. I'm sorry, Lilith, I know how much you wanted it."
Lilith ran out of the cave, I could've sworn I saw her crying. Racayanne saw me staring at her, "She'll be okay," He said, not looking at me. "I've know her for a really long time, she'll get over it."
He sighed and walked over to me and gave me his hand. "Well, as I see that you are practically barely living, why don't I tell you a story. People say that my stories are, well, calming." He flashed me a grin and something told me that this was a very, very, very bad idea. "So what do you want your story to be?"
I shrugged. "Maybe The Ahiliation." I winced and immediately regretted saying that. This was a bad idea, I was sure of it.
"The Ahiliation?" Racayanne laughed. "That's simply the day where the Powers went to kill the Partials to come into Power, but Ahilian, managed to escape. I assume you know the rest. Give me a better topic."
"Okay, let me see, why Powers and Partials hate each other?"
"I couldn't tell you that, little Dukey, even if I did know."
I sighed. "Alright then, how about something about the Shae."
Racayanne smiled. "Now, that, Dukey, is something I can definitely do. I'll do the day where Shae were created because of course Shae haven't always been around. It started thousands of centuries ago . . ."
