Chapter 6: A Kiss in the Trees
As Lilith and I trudged through the forest, I realized that I had left two question's unanswered.
"Lilith, when I returned to The Empire, somehow I walked into the big black cloud above The Empire and I saw everyone's soul and then I blinked and I was back in The Empire that I grew up in. How could I have entered a black cloud when I didn't even leave the ground?"
Lilith looked at me. "Essence, Duke, Essence. You know it always leads back to my mother, doesn't it? I think that she somehow transported you up there, to show you what she could do, what she's capable of. My mother has power's beyond imagination. Don't underestimate her, Duke. It's the last thing you want to do."
I shook my head. That didn't make any sense, but then again nothing in this twisted world does. "Just one more thing. In my twisted attempt to flee The Empire once again I slammed against the border that I had been able to cross with my soul. Does this mean that I lost my soul again or . . ." I trailed off not knowing any other possibilities.
Now it was Lilith's turn to shake her head. "No, Duke, I mean you haven't been bothered by The Voice, right? Essence just made the barrier so no one could get out, with a soul or without one. It was an easy spell I quickly made it so we could get out. Though I somehow think that she wanted us to escape. My mother always has these elaborate plans and somehow piece by piece they all come true."
I laughed and Lilith looked at me.
"What?" She said
"Well, you just said that it always leads back to your mom and indeed in does." She glared at me.
"You know, Duke, you have an awfully bad habit of interrupting people."
"And you have an awfully bad habit of sighing." I knew it probably wasn't the best thing to say to her, but I had to. It had been bothering me since I met her.
When she laughed I relaxed. "Sorry, it's just that I can't believe how little you know." She paused. "Actually, it's not your fault that you don't know anything, we've hidden it all from you. I just know a lot."
"Well, what 350-ish year old person wouldn't know a lot?"
She laughed. "True, true."
"Wait so when you said that your mother's plans always come true piece by piece are we fulfilling a plan right now and are the Power's The Voice?"
"Yes, the Power's are The Voice, we control everyone, well I don't anymore, but yes, I'm pretty sure we are fulfilling Essence's plan right now, but I'm also pretty sure that this isn't part of my mother's plan." She grinned wickedly and then she was kissing me, Lilith Power was kissing me. The girl I had alway's adored, would do anything for was kissing me, but then as soon as it started it stopped. Lilith broke off.
"Sorry," She muttered. "You probably don't want to go there."
I was speechless. I had never in my wildest dreams expected that to happen, but then again, these past few days weren't exactly what I would call normal. "Oh, no, it's um, it's fine, if you . . ." I trailed off and cursed myself in the process. Who say's, "It's um, fine." When the girl of your wildest dreams kisses you. You could probably say that I'm not the most romantic person in the world, but Lilith smiled. All though there was something off about it, like I was in a movie and she was the evil girl pretending to be good just so she could later kill me.
I shook it off. That wasn't the case. It couldn't be. "Oh, don't you worry, Duke. Everything's perfectly fine." Lilith smiled again and I felt that off thing again, but again I shook it off because I wanted to be able to trust Lilith. I needed to trust Lilith because if I didn't I was dead.
