"What, why are you still here?" I was stunned.
"I had to make sure it was you" he smiled.
"Why? So you can run around school and tell everyone?" I walked off in the direction of the train station.
"No, I want to know why first" he fell into step beside me.
"What do you mean?" I wondered.
"Well if it's a good enough story I might just keep this discovery to myself" he sang.
"Forget about my story, what are you doing here in Warlington?"
"That's not important, your fate as Cultural Captain hangs in the balance here"
I glared at him as we boarded the train.
"I'm waiting" he tapped his foot on the floor.
"Alright fine, I really need the money. I live with my drunken aunty who spends all the money she is given to look after me on drugs and alcohol. I've been working at the 'Silver Dish Café' since I was 13 so I can keep going to school and saving up to get out of her care the day I turn 18" I blurted out.
Cole just stared at me, stunned as we got off the train.
"Nope, not good enough, I guess everyone at school will have to find out now!" he shouted and darted a few meters away from me.
"But it's the truth!" I called back, just connecting with his eyes from the darkness of the night.
"My sympathies" he stated and continued to walk away.
That last remark, it felt genuine but it couldn't have been, it's Cole after all. Everyone is going to know about this at school tomorrow. I flopped down onto my bed when I got home depressed as ever and sank my head into my pillow.
It's all going to be over by tomorrow morning, the school won't let me keep my position as the captain. They think that a part time job and my role on top of normal school work is too much for one person to handle. I would try and explain my situation to them but that won't do anything.
The next day...
Cole walked into first period and kept his eyes on me as he walked between the desks to his seat at the back of the room, I could feel it.
"Lailah, don't look so menacing" Keira urged.
I let my head collapse on the desk.
"It's all over now, I can wave goodbye to my squeaky clean record. Promise me you'll remember me the way I was" I pleaded in a delusional state.
"Lailah, Lailah what are you talking about!" Keira shook me back to reality.
I saw Cole talking with a small group of people beside me, I could hear some of their conversation. Cole looked directly at me and started to open his mouth to join the talk.
I put my hands over my ears and shut my eyes, bracing for impact.
"Me too" he said.
Me too?
That's it, that's all he said. All that drama, I panicked so much I though he was going to tell everyone!
He looked back at me and smirked as I let my head fall back onto the desk again.
Stupid Cole.
