Third person POV
Bits and pieces of unspoken words flew around as an unplanned silence pierced the air. Time stretched and seconds morphed into long, drawn out minutes. Walls caved in and forced any sane thought in Mitch's head to disappear. Breathing was hard and tantalizing, hands were clammy, body was shivering. Panic struck and surrounded the small boy as he shook and cried into his hands. There was a distinct feeling of darkness that hung about the room. This was very much out of character for Mitch, he was usually happy and even if he wasn't he could almost always pull off a fake smile. He was good at pretending to be happy, it was a skill that he had learned when he was in high school and had helped him throughout his adult life. This though was not a matter of a simple smile or getting over spilling coffee on a designer jacket, this was...different. Mitch slowly picked up the test once more. Two pink lines looked back. Mitch had been feeling sick, he had gone to the doctor, 'take these tests and come back in two days' said the doctor. Boom, just like that his life was forever changed. He was only 23! He wasn't old enough! But that's not what scared him, what scared him was how Scott would react. Him in Scott, after knowing each other for forever, had only recently (on New Years) confessed their feelings. They were 100% not ready to have this kid. Mitch wiped away his tears as the sound of Scott calling to him rung out loudly after the quiet. Throwing the test into one of his bags Mitch made his way to his lover.
"Are you alright? You look like you've been crying!" Scott said, quickly rushing over to hug Mitch.
"Yeah I'm-" Mitch cleared his throat, " I'm okay...how are you? How was coffee with Kevin?" Scott clearly didn't believe that Mitch was okay but answered his question anyway. "Umm, Kevin was good. Coffee was great, I brought some home for you..." Scott's voice trailed off as he handed the cup to Mitch. That's when Mitch remembered: 'oh yeah, you're not supposed to have a lot of caffeine during a pregnancy. This is awful.'
"Hey...do you think you'd ever want kids?" Mitch asked, changing the subject.
"I definitely would someday...but I also know that male pregnancy is practically unheard of, I mean...it seems pretty uncommon. I don't know, why do you ask?" Scott pulled Mitch into a hug as he spoke, kissing the top of his head and awaiting a response.
"I just wanted to know...I was...umm... Reading an article about male pregnancy and I was just wondering."
And that was all that was said of the subject for a few weeks. Mitch was now a month and a half along in his pregnancy and he had managed to keep it a secret from Scott, but he knew this couldn't go on. His morning sickness had started up and Scott was beginning to worry, that's why Mitch had made the decision to tell him tonight. He knew tat he had an appointment in the morning so if everything went as planned then maybe Scott would go with him; if not then he could always go sleep in a hotel. Nerves Were intensified by hormones and Mitch was most certainly not himself during rehearsals as he prepared himself for what was to come. Finally him and Scott were home and he had called him into the living room to 'talk'. Undoubtedly Scott was worried about the formality of this term and quickly followed Mitch in and sat down waiting for an explanation.
"Okay, first of all I want to tell you that I love you very, very much so if anything that I'm about to tell you changes how you feel about me know that I still love you and I'm sorry that this had to happen." Mitch was then cut off by Scott who quickly made sure how much he loved him. "Scott, I know that you love me now...but just listen, okay? To put it simply: I'm pregnant."
After the words were out they seemed to hang heavily over the room, surrounded by the silence. "Mitch-you're pregnant? No! We're to young! What? How!" Scott looked distressed but Mitch didn't care, he was quite angry with him by now. " I'm pretty sure you know how it happened Scott." He replied angrily. "I knew this would happen, it's not all my fault though!" With that Mitch burst into tears. "Shh, it's okay...I know that it's not your fault, and I'm not mad! I'm just...surprised. To say the least. But it will be okay, I'm sure that there is a reason this happened and we'll get though it. Together. I love you Mitch."
With that a weight was lifted off Mitch's shoulders, it was like the changing from night to day, dark to light, silenced to free. Even though it was unplanned everything felt right.
