***Onyx's POV***

Usually waking up to the sound of my alarm pisses me off, but not today. It brings me happiness. I turn off my alarm and start to get ready. It's been so long and I can't wait to get out there. I change into a pair of black skinny jeans, a pair of black boots, and a black t-shirt. I then straighten my hair, add some makeup, and check the clock. It's 5:53 AM. I enter Frankie's office to find Damon and Frankie are already there. Good, I hate waiting.

"Sit." Frankie motions for me to sit in the red cushion chair next to Damon. I could feel my hands get clammy as I sit in the chair.

"I will tell you the details of the assignment, but first we must go over some rules." Of course. I try my hardest not to roll my eyes.

"Damon, you know you're t-"

"Yeah, to babysit her." Damon motions to me. The fuck.

"Babysit? If anything, I would have to be watching you." Damon was about to defend himself  but Frankie spoke.

"Enough. Rule number one, you will not purposely put your life in danger, either of you. Rule number two, if you two are outnumbered listen to Damon. Rule number three, if either of you are injured call for back up immediately. Rule number four," Frankie just kept going on and on about these damn rules as if I was fucking new and I didn't know what the fuck I was doing. Just because I made one damn mistake a couple years ago.

"Is that clear?" His face and voice was stern. I stared at his face. He looked worn out, tired, stressed. I nodded my head yes and Frankie told us our assignment. Basically, we have to go get money from this idiot who is past their due date. He owes us 100k, so that's what we're gonna bring back. Damon and I headed out and went into the garage, where they kept the cars. I followed Damon, we both hop in and take off. I turn on the radio so it isn't too awkward. A couple of seconds later, Damon turned down the music. I turned to look at him. His eyes were still focused on the road, but he spoke.

"So are we not gonna talk about yesterday?" There was no emotion on his face.

"What is there to talk about?" I crossed my arms over my chest. I really don't want to talk about it. I mean, I don't see a reason to even talk about it.

"How about how you left before I could say anything. I know that you don't want to have a relationship. But why can't we be friends?"

"Because you don't want to be friends. You want to get to know me and hope that one day I will change my mind. Which I don't know why since we don't even know each other."

"I know you feel what is between us. I can tell by your body language, love."

"I don't know what you are talking about. We shouldn't even be having this conversation." Damon suddenly pulls over to the side of the road.

"What the fuck are you doing?" Damon takes off his seat belt and turns to face me.

"So you are saying I am imagining the tension between us?" His eyes burned into mine, but I couldn't take it so I look at my feet.

"Yes."

"Look me at me." I roll my eyes at his request.

"Why?"

"Because I don't believe you. Look me in the eyes and say it. Do that and I will fall back." I bit the inside of my cheek. A part of me wanted him to keep flirting with me, and the other part was begging me not to put myself in the position to get hurt. I couldn't bring myself to make eye contact with him. His stare is so intense. So I turn to look out the window.

"Doesn't matter what I feel, Frankie would never approve."

"Don't use him as an excuse."

"I'm not. I'm just stating facts. Even if he did approve and we end up together. We could never get married with kids, grow old together or anything long-term that normal couples do. One of us will die or end up in prison before we even turn thirty." I can't see Damon, but I can feel him shift in his seat. I can hear the click of him putting his seat belt back on. He starts driving again and I finally look at him. His breathing was at a steady pace, his green eyes focused, and his eyebrows furrowed.
