Conor Byrne

My vision was blurred as I was rushed down the hallway on a bed, holding my sister's hand as she was running alongside me. Bursting through the wooden doors at the end of the hall, I caught a glimpse of the engravement on the doors: Surgery.

Waking up hours, possibly days, I didn't know, later, I was laying down in the hospital bed in a room I didn't recognise. At the other end of the room sat Nadira and Conor. Conor, being the loving, caring person he is, was fast asleep on his chair, and did not realise I had woken up. Nadira, on the other hand, rushed over to me as soon as my head moved. She kissed my forehead and said she was so glad I was OK.

A few minutes later, a doctor walked into the room to check on me. It was only then that Conor actually woke up, which was nice of him. Conor looked at me, and saw how bad I looked laying there in the bed. He dropped his head in shame and exited the room, without uttering a word.

The doctor told me I would be able to leave the hospital in two days, but I would be in pain when ever I breathed as my ribs were recovering from their injuries. Outside the window looking out into the hallway, I saw Conor talking to a policeman. Great. I suppose he had a right to wonder how I had gotten to the place I was in now.

As I exited room 7-07, the room in which Conor was being cared for in, I felt guilty and ashamed of myself that I had caused Conor these injuries and caused Nadira all this trouble over Conor. I also felt ashamed that I was asleep when Conor woke up, but hey, I'm a deep sleeper, I'm not woken up easily.

Outside of the room, a tall, lanky man in a uniform sat on the seat. He had a badge on his black, heavy jacket that read Heddlu De Cymru, which I figured meant Wales Police in Welsh. He stood up when he saw me exit the room, and began questioning me about my age, home country, and what happened to Conor, without even introducing himself or anything. I told the policeman that Conor had attempted to stop a robber who was breaking into a house, but the robber struck Conor in his chest with a crowbar. He took down some notes and nodded, and proceeded to retake his seat, without a thank you or anything.

I now had another problem to overcome. I had provided the copper with an alibi as to what happened to Conor. However, I was not allowed back into the room while the doctor checked on Conor, as Conor had chosen Nadira instead of me to stay with him, which was fair enough considering I only knew him for a couple of weeks.

The obstacle, however. I knew that:
1) The policeman would be going into the room when the doctor was done to question Conor and Nadira.

2) Conor and Nadira would not provide the policeman with the same alibi as I did.

3) If that happened, we would be found out and locked up.

I needed to act quick, to either get in before the policeman did to tell Nadira and Conor what to say, or to distract the policeman when the doctor came out. I spotted a red box...
