So, the game is going to last an hour as based on the level our school is playing. I mean its not just school level. School level games last just for thirty minutes and are boring. I'm suddenly hungry for some reason. I don't even have a friend to talk to. I don't think Rose and her friends care for the football game or even any sport. At least she herself doesn't look athletic. But her hair, its my new obsession. To describe he from top to bottom. She's like two inches taller than me, neither slim nor fat, she's on the healthy side, dark brown hair with purple tips and a gothic charm. Her way of talking is pretty straightforward though. Any way, there are ten minutes left. Phew.
'You want some lemonade?' A guy asks me bringing several glasses of lemonade in a tray. He seems recognizable but I don't really remember him. I realize I'm the last one he's asking. I glance the line of cheerleaders ahead. No one has taken it. Lets make him feel better.
'Sure.' He hands me the glass and smiles.
'Are you a substitute for our coach?' I ask. He seems older than the rest of the guys.
'What makes you think that? Don't you recognize me?' He asks me.
'Well you look pretty older than all of the other guys and by looking at you, you have the body to be playing on the field. And since you are not, I just guessed. I think I have seen you somewhere but I still don't have the handle on it.' I say and just realize how judgemental I sound.
'So, what's your name anyway?' I ask.
'Seriously saying, you honestly don't wanna know!'
'Why though? So, you're not a student that means?' I ask acting like curiosity is my name.
'I am a student, I even have some classes with you but you are going to rage like crazy if I tell you my name.' He says and I wonder. I don't even really know him then why would I rage?
'Tell me. Tell me.' Now I'mm whining like a small kid.
'Promise me, that you wont cause any drama.'
'I promise.' I say. Well I think I'll keep it this time.
'It's Ronald. My name is Ronald.' He says taking two steps away from me.
'Thats a pretty cool name, why would be angry on that?'
'Oh God, you seriously don't remember, do you?' He says laughing crazy.
'Remember what?' I almost say in my singing voice.
'I'm the one that hit you and spilled pasta on you.' He says and stops laughing at one. Well, yeah. I'll keep the promise. That incident actually led me to some pretty good empowerments.
'Oh. Well I'm not mad at you, so now you take a breath of relief.' I say a little annoyed.
'Really? I thought you would come at me with those pom-poms.' Seriously? Thats the impression people have of me?
'Firstly, I'm not in grade three to do that and secondly that incident made me realize some stuff so yeah. I should actually thank you!'
'Oh well I'm glad to hear that. It's Lucy right?' Yay, after so long I'm across a person who doesn't know my name for sure.
'Yeah.'
The football coach calls him and he goes away. I drain my lemonade in the grass. Too sour.
Jackson saves a touchdown from the other team and we all get up and cheer. Wait. Am I seeing this right now? Jackson is currently pointing at Bree and Bree is returning a flying kiss to him. I honestly did not see that coming an hour after our break up. I don't wanna say the word though.
Half time has started. We are going up in five minutes.
I'm currently in our school sweatshirt. Once I get goose bumps I'm done. Though I have to take it out now. I take my sweatshirt out and put it near my water bottle. I get in the line with cheerleaders and we march towards the centre of the football ground. We get in big group hug and shout,
'We are the Wolves!'
I'm the vertex of so called triangle formation. Waiting for the music to start.
'One, two three!' I shout and we start our dancing.
I have to say that its easier said than done. This sure requires a lot. I just did my favourite move. The standing split. Yeah. The six front cheerleaders are on a dance routine, and the guys in the back are flicking off girls like light switches. Its our time to go on the back now.
Everyone is looking at me. Me. It's getting me nervous, but if I lose balance,I fall. I don't want to continue anymore. Feel like I'm going to puke. After performance, I'm gonna go and slap both of the guys that are flicking me right here right now.
The final moment is here. I'm standing in a sass pose behind every other cheerleader with hands on my waist and my palms crushing the sticks of the pom-poms. Every one is coming in now. Forming a diamond. The first person just sat down. The second. The third. I feel like the ground is shaking. Thats not a good sign. The second floor has started building up on the pyramid. I can see the fingers of the people at first floor digging inside the grass, taking and making the fresh and moist soil come out in the shape of mini-craters. It's giving me shivers to be honest. The third floor is getting completed. Just five more people and I will have to start climbing to be at the ultimate to of the squad.
Now its my time.
I climb up the first floor and recognize that Bree is the middle bottom of the pyramid. She is the base. If she breaks off, I'm going to be dead like a corpse. I don't feel so good about trusting the girl who was not my friend and the girl who made my boyfriend cheat me. She can have sweet revenge by just not supporting one of her arms. Well but revenge should be mine.
I reach at the top and stand straight with both of my hands in the air. My blue, black and white pom-poms flying in the air. This is the feeling life should give Suddenly I feel my knees bent. This doesn't happen with me usually. Or anyone. I can see the pyramid collapsing below me.
No.
My fear was real.
I fall.
At this point I can think of the fact that I'm falling. My memories are coming back to me. When my sister talked to me about her first crush. When I got a car. Sixteenth birthday. The Rose talk. The time on the beach with Jackson. All goes by in three seconds as I hit the ground falling on my head and the crowd starts making sounds. My eyes are open towards the sky. Shutting down. Shutting down.
Now I can see people surrounding me. A little.
Who are they?
Bree,
Mom,
Dad,
Rose,
Jackson.
And Ronald. Ronald?
