Affection at last

Chapter 17

It was the longest four hours I've ever spent on a plane and to be honest the guy sitting next to me was cute but it was kinda creepy how he kept asking me questions and wanted to know so much about me. I ended up falling asleep and telling him absolutely nothing,I landed back in Maysville and felt the cold breeze on my skin. I miss the smell of salt water,my mom was standing outside her car with the biggest smile on her face and i somehow managed to smile back at her.
"How was your vacation?"
"Good"
"Just good?"
I tired to look at the trees out the window that we were passing, avoiding the topic.
"You know,your grandmother called me today. She said that you seemed a little strange"
"She's 70, colored tv is strange to her"
I tried to make a joke to make it seem like everything was okay. I took my phone out my bag and turned it off airplane mode, i had about 10 text messages and missed calls from Stephanie but i'll see her later anyways.
"Are you happy to be home?"
"If i say yes will you believe me?"
My mom let out a laugh
"So i'm going out with some of my co-workers tonight so you'll have the house to yourself, you can invite Stephanie or Chris over"
"I think i'll just be by myself tonight"
My mom gave me a confused look but i ignored it, we finally got home and i know i'm supposed to be happy to sleep in my own bed but the only thing i can remember about my room is the gift Adam left in there for me. I know i'm going to have to talk to Stephanie eventually so i walk over to her house, both her parents cars were gone so i just walked in.
"Hello? Steph"
I hear the sound of feet running across the hallway and down the stairs.
"Hey! Your back"
Stephanie said as she wrapped her arms around me.
"Yeah, it's good to be back"
I lied
"Omg i have so much to tell"
Me and steph sat down on the couch.
"So while you were gone guess who got a boob job?"
"Tiffany?"
"Who else?"
We both started laughing, no matter how much i loved being in Florida i missed my best friend.
"How's Chris been doing"
In a second her smile turned into a frown
"Well he's been getting better and been trying to walk, you know"
"Am i missing something?"
"I think you should go and talk to him"
"Why?"
"Adam has been of the rails lately, we found out that he was on drugs and that he got charged with a DUI and was in jail for a couple days"
"Where is he now?"
"He's staying with Chris"
"And you wanted me to go and talk to him while that devil is staying with him?"
"That's not it"
"Than what is it?"
"Just call him at least"
I left the couch and sat on Stephanie's porch and pulled out my phone.
"Hey,girlfriend"
The sound of his voice made me smile
"Hey"
"Why haven't you called me?"
"Oh, well you know old people they always want to spend time with you"
"Well can i see you tonight? Why don't you come over?"
"I don't think that's a good idea"
"Why"
"There's something i have to tell you"

I got to Chris's house and stood on his porch, i took a deep breath in before i rung the doorbell.
"Hey girlfriend,come in"
"Can we just stay on the porch?"
"Um, okay"
Chris limped out his wheel chair and grabbed his crutches and sat on the swing on his porch. I sat beside him and he put his arm around me.
"What do you have to tell me?"
"A week before i left to go see my grandma some weird things were happening"
"What do you mean?"
"I came home one day and found spray paint on my walls and a note from Adam"
"How are you so sure it was him?"
"Well he's been acting aggressive towards me and when i was in florida he called me and threatened me and he pushed me in the halls and told everyone i put you in a wheelchair"
"He's been through alot, and he was probably just joking. You know him, he's a jerk"
"Why are you making excuses for him?"
" I'm not,why are you taking this so serious"
With that chris pulled his arm from around me and sat up.
"There's something wrong with him, he's acting crazy"
I said trying to defend myself.
"I think you should go"
"What?"
"Leave, Laura"
Chris grabbed his crutches and limped back inside slamming the door behind him and leaving me on the porch.

It took me a while to process what just happened but i finally got off his porch and went home. I didn't even bother eating anything i just ran to my room and jumped under my covers. I layed there for about an hour until i finally felt sleepy and was drifting off. I hear a noise outside my window and i hear it open, my heart started beating fast.
"Don't tell me your sleeping after what you just did"
I lifted the covers off my head and Adam was standing in my bedroom.
"Why are you here?"
"I thought i'd pay you a visit, kinda like a welcome back gift. It was brave of you to try to tell chris about our little secret"
"You mean how you're harassing me?"
Adam walked over to me and put his hand on my shoulder.
"What do you want?"
"I want you to leave chris alone"
"He's my boyfriend"
"Yeah well, he's better off without you"
"And what if i don't leave him alone?"
"Well than, i'll just have to get rid of you. I know some bad people and they're willing to do anything to shed some blood"
