Getting up is it's own unique adventure, which I attempted a few times before settling down and pushing myself off of the ground.

I wandered around the neighborhood, the borders of the sidewalks dotted with small little twigs that barely passed as mailboxes, trying to find the slightest clue about where I was supposed to stay, or where I was supposed to go. I knew what my mission was obviously, and where and who it involved, but I was obviously not eligible for the delicacy that would be to have a map marked with where I was supposed to stay.

Or maybe the head Fae queen had gone a step further and made sure to intensify my current misery by throwing me into this foreign realm without proper food, shelter and more importantly, some tampons. Who knew how long I would be here?

In addition, I could already feel that my new body was plagued with human problems, like thirst if I didn't drink enough water, or the sweat that was staining my shirt, but I was not feeling drowsy yet: a tell-tale sign that I still would able to maintain the Fae trait of needing no more than one hour of sleep per day.

I looked around the street and observed the houses, praying that none of the neighborhood residents would call law enforcement to report a creepy blonde circling the premises while staring into the windows.

The lights in each house were flickering on, making them glow in contrast to the approaching darkness. I shivered, running my hands over my goosebumps to warm my body up.

I spotted a house near the corner of the block and briskly walked there. I had read in the books that on most human houses, there was a button you could press to alert it's residents but I just resorted to knocking after searching for the bell for a couple minutes.

The door opened and I was greeted by the bright, shining face of a near middle-aged woman. She had sparkling green eyes, a wide smile, and immediately chirped out a friendly "Hello".

I cleared my throat nervously, "Sorry for the disturbance m'am, I just moved in and was wandering around the neighborhood and got a bit lost. Could you direct me to my house?"

"Sure sweetie! Where are your parents anyways?"

My mother was currently in another galaxy and my father had been executed by the Fae Court for his crimes when I had been younger. It was probably best not to tell this woman about my powers and my mission to save the univers anyways.

"Our car broke down on the side of the highway and I had hitched a ride with the movers while they called the tow truck", I smile, mentally thanking myself for the nights I had binge-watched human Netflix series. It was helping me a whole lot more than I expected. "I had the house key with me and settled in but seem to be unable to find it now".

Her eyes widened,"Well I can't let a young woman like you be home alone! You're probably so hungry as well! We have a spare bedroom for you".

Before I could protest I was whisked into the warmth and comfort of her home and sat down at her dinner table, "Who's we?"

"My son and I", she said absentmindedly as she grabbed Tupperware out of her fridge and warmed the food up, "You look about his age. How old are you anyways?"

Grateful for the current quality of hospitality as well as temporary food and shelter, I decided to further continue the conversation,"Seventeen. I'm actually completing my senior year at the nearby high school". Fae time passed twice as quickly as human time, so I actually was 34 in this dimension. But what she doesn't know can't hurt her.
