Just Like Magic (UNEDITED)

Chapter Twelve

I grabbed my cheerleading bag out of my gym locker- quickly hustling outside to the gym where we were rehearsing.

Dropping the bag into it's usual spot on the bleachers, I checked to make sure the red book
remained in it's spot.

I kept getting this reoccurring image of my head of Emma tearing out the pages to use as kindling- and me being thrown into the fire to be burned at a stake.

Graphic, I know- but I have an unmatchable talent for imagining worst case scenarios for when the entire school somehow discovers my secret.

I took a deep breath and cracked the book open, checking the blank pages, except for the table of contents and the first chapter- both with 'Snow White' shown in dark letters across the page.

Releasing a disappointed sigh from my chest, I started to close the leather-bound book.

The book slowly started to vibrate, flipping past a couple pages as I stared at it in aw. I had the good sense to cover it with my backpack to protect my view from prying eyes.

'Sleeping Beauty' was written in the table of contents under 'Snow White'.

And the plot starts to thicken.

I spotted Pierce staring accusingly back at me from the opposite side of the bleachers- I gulped, stuffing the book into my bag and hurrying into formation.

"They're nice aren't they?" a familiar voice whispered to me from the right. Bella pulled her hair back into a ponytail," Our new uniforms are fantastic, and I can actually breath in them for a change. But don't tell Emma I said so."

Despite all the people I was running from (including but not limited to, the queen, Emma, Pierce, and Ryan)- I was finally relieved to find comfort in seeing someone I was familiar with.

"Tell Emma?" I grinned back at her and sat down to stretch," I'm actually trying to avoid her at the moment."

I reached up above my head, letting a gasp of surprise as I heard it pop and crackle as I stretched further. I'm still adjusting to my human body apparently.

"I've just been on edge," I explained to her," Just so much going on."

"Yeah," she nodded in agreement," homework is a total butt. And now that we have to actual work in school- I have to start getting more community service hours too."

Try running from government officials, tracking down several fictional characters, being booted into in another universe, and avoiding a human who saw you use magic on your school principal.

The team's chatter was silenced as Emma strutted into the gym with her Squad Captain jacket on display.

"Hustle up bitches," she sharply instructed us, scattering us into our spots.

I focused on the motions of our routine, hoisting Bella above me as we formed a pyramid.

And at the corner of my eye- I caught Pierce edging towards my backpack.

Bella yelped as my grip on her ankle slipped, sending her tumbling to the ground.
